Georgia republicans just made water an illegal substance

Watching what each person near a poll is a huge task. Why is it so hard to just not give out free food and drink?
They’ve been doing it for decades.

Why is it so bad for someone to hand out water if they’re not advocating for anything? It’s petty.

Well folks you can now go to jail in Georgia if you offer people waiting in a long line to vote a little water and a snack thanks to republicans in that state. Other republican controlled states may follow suit..Georgia governor signs sweeping election regulations into law. There are even restrictions on snacks...

My guess is that it was because some Democrat hack activist was passing out free bottles of water and making suggestions about who to vote for.
I thought it was to hurt the "Souls to the Polls" church groups in Georgia that shuttle folks to the polls to help with gas and costs?

Naw, that trick goes all the way back to Jim Jones' People's Temple, when they were located in San Francisco. They would hand out water and snacks to poor people and minorities in an effort to get them to vote for left-wing Democratic candidates.

Jones even rented out his flock to be used as crowds for left-wing political rallies and protests.

When a left-winger walks up and hands you something to drink, it's always best to politely refuse.

You don't. But a bottle of water is a cheap deductible expense. If you handed out out a one dollar bill to X amount of people lined up at a polling place in some low-rent part of town and asked them to please vote for candidate Y, a certain number of people are going to be convinced that candidate Y is an ok guy.

it's one of the oldest political tricks in the book. it's also the reason you have eternally-Democrat shitholes like Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, etc.
Democrats once got in trouble for handing out packs of cigarettes at polling places. Then they claim the need for this law.

You can see from 1000 feet away someone dispensing water to voters. How close do you have to be to determine they are politicking while they do it? Within earshot, obviously.
 
The issue here is surely the length of time it takes to vote. You should not have to wait in line,you should be able to walk in and vote. 5 minutes tops over here.
The CRCs, trumpanzees, and orange cultists want to forget that standing in line is now an hours-long thing ALSO thanks to the GOP in red states.
I waited in line about 2 minutes. I just don't believe these Dim claims. Why isn't there any video online of these hours long lines?
 
It seems the Republican Party is intent on committing suicide. Kemp's signing of this new iteration of Jim Crow Law is EVIL, and now is the time for all good men and women to stand up and defend the Mission Statements left to us in the Preamble to COTUS and The Declaration of Independence, to wit:

Thank the dems who are always cheating.

Even this year in florida, as I and my husband went in person to vote...we parked at the edge of the library's parking lot....only to see a dem (holding a stack of papers with BIDEN/HARRIS on them) playing her silly illegal games.

I as usual took far less time to vote than my husband and decided to wait by our SUV for him to finish and got to watch the show. The Dem literally would hide in the bushes separating the adjoining gas station from the library and would jump out when she would spot her potential single victims just arriving to vote. She would run up to the would be victims offering to "help" them vote. Of course this is illegal and tacky but that doesn't stop dems.

Was that Democrat WITHIN the polling zone or far enough away....you describing parking at the edge of the lot indicates she was far enough away. Are you even aware of the policy where you live or are you playing the victim in ignorance?

I don't recall whether it was USMB or another forum, but I remember a poster who claimed to have witnessed bus after bus loaded with illegal immigrants pulling into a polling place to vote. Don't believe these eyewitness stories. 99% of them are the product of overactive imaginations. ;)

I don't have that much respect for the brain trust in any of our state legistures. Thus my disgust with their self-serving deeds is tempered by thought that when they get too cute, they're more opt to shoot themselves in the foot.

the Pennsylvania State Constitution requires in-person voting, and the only recognized exception to this requirement is the options reflected in Sec. 14, which were added to the Constitution via the accepted Amendment process in 1967. Sec. 14 sets forth four specific bases for a qualified voter to cast an absentee vote under the Constitution: 1) the voter will be absent from their municipality because duties, occupation, or business needs require them to be elsewhere; 2) illness or physical disability; 3) observance of a religious holiday, and 4) due to status as a county worker.
 
We elect people who have made it their job to dream up laws they can use against us.
They have long since passed the point of sound judgment and have moved on to ineptitude...

McLaughlin noted that the law applies to a 150-foot radius around polling places or “within 25 feet of any voter standing in line to vote at any polling place.” He wrote also that the law doesn’t prohibit voters from bringing their own food or beverages to stand in line or ordering food to be delivered. People can also donate food and drinks to voters, it just has to be given to poll workers for general use.

“The president’s claim that ‘You can’t provide water for people about to vote’ is just false.

What you cannot do under the new Georgia law is deploy people in National Rifle Association t-shirts and MAGA hats to hand out free Koch-brothers-financed, Federalist Society–branded pizza to voters,” McLaughlin wrote. “In other words, this entire controversy is not about people dropping dead of hunger and thirst on long voting lines at all.

It’s about electioneering around the polling place by people looking to advertise that they represent a cause, and who try to influence voters by giving them free stuff.

Across the country today, we already have lots of laws against this sort of thing. There is nothing wrong with Georgia trying to limit it.”

That looks like about a 20 minute line. There were that many people in line when it took me 5 minutes to vote. The reporter said some of those lines were voters waiting before the polls even opened. They were all about early voting, not long poll lines. No one questioned said they had been waiting in line for hours while the polls were open.

FAIL!
