There is a reason that the 3 government branches are chosen in 3 differing ways.. BALANCE.. and we ALREADY have a branch that is chosen by direct popular vote.. to have a second branch chosen in the exact same way gives us less balance.. the states (you know, those things that actually give the federal government its power) should indeed have a say in the choosing of one branch, and as we have it now that is the executive... Even the smallest state's voice can be heard in this system...

Will of the people is also knows as tyranny of the majority in many cases... and it is why we have a constitutional representative republic and not a democracy

If the republicans stay on this course of, by the majority of accounts, rigging elections, through the radicalization of the minority vote trumping the will of the majority...The backlash will be severe.
With the advent of almost instant communication, direct democracy is more feasible now, than any time in history.
The hard cold fact that this country doesn't need a body of government, to decide the crucial decisions, will become more and more evident to the younger generations.
The more Congress fouls the decision making process, the more people will be willing to take the reins of governance into their own hands.
Direct Democracy is feasible, the only thing stopping it is the propagandized fear the powers that be have instilled into the public. That veil of fear is rapidly dissipating, brought about by bought and paid for politicians, exacerbated by incompetent idiots we call... Congress.
