There has to be a reason to bring the issue before a judge - the adjudicatin is the result of a legal action. Having "symptoms" doesn't cut it.

Civil Rights cannot be stripped absent judicial action. The concept that simply placing a person in observation removes civil rights is patently unconstitutional. IF the Peoples Republic of California is doing this, then it needs to be taken up with the ACLJ (The ACLU doesn't really support civil rights, so are of no use.) And it needs to go to the SCOTUS.

The difference is that the town was small enough that the law could post people almost everywhere, thus transfering the responsibility of protecting the people FROM the people TO law enforcement. Once they took your gun at the limits of town, they assumed the mantle of protection. The equivalent today would be that the police would be 100% responsible for your safety, which they clearly are not.

Also I note you neglect to mention open carry. Did the towns still allow that?
