If the Russians did it, there would be no note, no body, no evidence. They're smarter than that & wouldn't bother trying to cover it up, they'd rather 'make it disappear'.

It depends on whether he could have extended the term, it may not have been guaranteed and if it was up for renewal his premiums may have been out of reach at age 81.
