GOP outlaws consumer class action suits against financial institutions.

...and a huge payout by the corporation that lost....
And then higher prices to the consumers who have to pay for the class action lawsuit. No more phishing bullshit. Win, win, for the US citizen.

That would be a great argument to stop requiring automakers from issuing safety recalls! My brother's Pinto would light up like a zippo lighter if hit in the rear, but, by god, it was cheap!
------------------------------------------------- Pintos were ok , i had a VEGA that i bought used , woulda bought a Pinto if it had been available . Vega , Pinto , didn't matter to me , let the buyer BEWARE VShandle .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- what , you aren't adult enough to handle your own affairs and you need a Nanny or Minder VShandle ??

Trolling. no content, and not worthy of a serious response.
--------------------------------------------------- its not TROLLING snowflakeVS , adults police the thing they pay money for . As regards buying things , its always been the buyers responsibility to be careful of the things that he buys . Thats where the old expression of Let The BUYER Beware. YOU want nanny , momma or government to police the things that you buy . As far as this Class Action Lawsuits , hey i agree that these class actions should be gotten rid of as all they are is a scam VShandle ,

So money gets transferred from the 1% you don't like, to the 1% you do like....

great....

If that discourages corporations from illegally ripping me off, yeah, i can live with that.
How do corporations illegally rip you off?

Would you like to ask VW, or maybe Enron?
Enron was a major donor to the Bill Clinton Campaign
Enron and the Clinton Administration: Ties That Bind
Enron Corporation saw the opportunity to exploit the newly minted Clinton administration even before Clinton was sworn into office, and saw 1992 campaign issues including investment tax credits and restrictions on carbon dioxide as beneficial to the company.

According to the November 1992 edition of the Enron corporate newsletter, 'To The Point,' the company looked forward to dealing with the upcoming Clinton administration.

Obama was in office when it was found out that VW was cheating the diesel emissions testing, why didn't Obama punish VW like they did with BP(which the interior Department passed that oil rig)? Germany is socialist, while Britain is not... What a tangle web is woven.....

Neither needed a class action to punish the offenders. ENRON was taken out using the criminal justice system, and with VW the government was able to go after them.

Senate Votes to Repeal Financial Class Action Rule

Wall Street wins.

You lose.

This is what the GOP calls "draining the swamp"

Apparently, the business of the federal government is to protect Wells Fargo from evil consumers.

Have people lost the ability to comprehend what they read? There is no outlawing of class action lawsuits, all this did was allow institutions to put wording in their contracts that tie the person to arbitration vice a class action suit. If people do not like that idea, then they can have the contracts changed.

Right! When I get apply for a credit card at Wells Fargo, I will simply insist they they rewrite the contract on my terms!

Or go with a different bank offering better terms.

According to the GOP bill just past, the "free market" requires that congress pass a law protecting ALL banks from class action suits. Why, that is what the "free market" is all about, isn't it?

You really need to update your act, pismoe. i have not heard reactionaries use the words "nanny state" in 3 or 4 years. "Let the Buyer Beware" dropped out of fashion sometime in the 1950's. it sure has not been used since Enron. Next, you will be calling me a commie.

Many company these days has an arbitration clause that you you agree to when you do business with that company. The GOP didn't ban class action lawsuits. They just refused to ban arbitration clauses. (Arbitration is a whole lot cheaper for both parties, and just as fair as the courts.)

I was a resident of California during the time that Enron stole the entire state surplus over artificial price gouging. That was my tax money. i never saw any of it again, so, I would say that there really is no need to dial back the financial responsibility of corporations stealing from the public.

Most class action suits result in a coupon for a free slurpee for the plaintiffs, and a new yacht for the trial lawyers.

Strawman as usual... Why would McDonalds have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to a stupid bitch who put her HOT coffee between her legs then get in an accident that burned her legs? Phishing...

good point. Let's make suing McDonald's illegal, too. Then, when they poison people, they can take them to arbitration....if they live.

I thought the hot coffee McDonalds case was silly also, then I went & read the case. interesting.

Granted. But the end result is the same. Since financial institutions can require arbitration, they WILL require arbitration, and thereby avoid taking financial responsibility for anything they do to an individual who is not prepared to prepare for an arbitration hearing that could be a challenge to a law student to win.

This is the bottom line.

If a bank somehow screws you out of a thousand dollars, you can take them to court. Yea, as if that would ever happen. More than 90% of arbitration cases favor the banks.

So what they did under Obama is make an option where many customers together could take a big bank to court. Yesterday, the GOP rolled that back. Oh, you say it never happens?

Ask those about the Wells Fargo fraud case and all the people it harmed and the 150 million Wells Fargo had to pay out. Well, that won't happen again. Republicans made sure of it.

Just the GOP screwing over the American people once again.

And the base loves it.

Soon banks and companies will have more rights than you. Trump and the GOP will make sure of it.

And, they are also protecting credit card companies from consumers.

Republicans suck almost as much as Democrats.
