GOP outlaws consumer class action suits against financial institutions.

That would be a great argument to stop requiring automakers from issuing safety recalls! My brother's Pinto would light up like a zippo lighter if hit in the rear, but, by god, it was cheap!
------------------------------------------------- Pintos were ok , i had a VEGA that i bought used , woulda bought a Pinto if it had been available . Vega , Pinto , didn't matter to me , let the buyer BEWARE VShandle .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- what , you aren't adult enough to handle your own affairs and you need a Nanny or Minder VShandle ??

Trolling. no content, and not worthy of a serious response.
--------------------------------------------------- its not TROLLING snowflakeVS , adults police the thing they pay money for . As regards buying things , its always been the buyers responsibility to be careful of the things that he buys . Thats where the old expression of Let The BUYER Beware. YOU want nanny , momma or government to police the things that you buy . As far as this Class Action Lawsuits , hey i agree that these class actions should be gotten rid of as all they are is a scam VShandle ,

You really need to update your act, pismoe. i have not heard reactionaries use the words "nanny state" in 3 or 4 years. "Let the Buyer Beware" dropped out of fashion sometime in the 1950's. it sure has not been used since Enron. Next, you will be calling me a commie.
--------------------------------- yeah , agree , commie or a lefty or nanny state lover are all the same with me and i am familiar with your postings . But hey , its simple , let the buyer beware . Its an old saying i grew up with it as my parents taught me to mind how i spent my money VShandel .

If that discourages corporations from illegally ripping me off, yeah, i can live with that.
How do corporations illegally rip you off?

Would you like to ask VW, or maybe Enron?
Enron was a major donor to the Bill Clinton Campaign
Enron and the Clinton Administration: Ties That Bind
Enron Corporation saw the opportunity to exploit the newly minted Clinton administration even before Clinton was sworn into office, and saw 1992 campaign issues including investment tax credits and restrictions on carbon dioxide as beneficial to the company.

According to the November 1992 edition of the Enron corporate newsletter, 'To The Point,' the company looked forward to dealing with the upcoming Clinton administration.

Obama was in office when it was found out that VW was cheating the diesel emissions testing, why didn't Obama punish VW like they did with BP(which the interior Department passed that oil rig)? Germany is socialist, while Britain is not... What a tangle web is woven.....

Neither needed a class action to punish the offenders. ENRON was taken out using the criminal justice system, and with VW the government was able to go after them.

I was a resident of California during the time that Enron stole the entire state surplus over artificial price gouging. That was my tax money. i never saw any of it again, so, I would say that there really is no need to dial back the financial responsibility of corporations stealing from the public.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- keep resisting , see what it get you 'jeff flake and 'bob corker , err i mean VShandel .

Why not see how it works out for the economy before y'all hysterical liberals start smashing windows and torching cars.

Senate Votes to Repeal Financial Class Action Rule

Wall Street wins.

You lose.

This is what the GOP calls "draining the swamp"

Most class action suits result in a coupon for a free slurpee for the plaintiffs, and a new yacht for the trial lawyers.

...and a huge payout by the corporation that lost....

So money gets transferred from the 1% you don't like, to the 1% you do like....

great....

If that discourages corporations from illegally ripping me off, yeah, i can live with that.

Your hatred of (some) people with more than you doesn't justify allowing BS lawsuits that only enrich trial lawyers, and by proxy, the DNC.
Oh bull crap...this is nothing less than an amnesty, from the cronies in Washington, for their donors and owners....

why do banks get this favor and not all corporations and businesses and countries?

It's a FAVOR and PAYBACK Marty, really it is.... and it keeps us from being able to redress our grievances....

where are all of these FAKE/ frivolous lawsuits that you claim? How many are wrong, compared to how many are right and not frivolous?

This is the bottom line.

If a bank somehow screws you out of a thousand dollars, you can take them to court. Yea, as if that would ever happen. More than 90% of arbitration cases favor the banks.

So what they did under Obama is make an option where many customers together could take a big bank to court. Yesterday, the GOP rolled that back. Oh, you say it never happens?

Ask those about the Wells Fargo fraud case and all the people it harmed and the 150 million Wells Fargo had to pay out. Well, that won't happen again. Republicans made sure of it.

Just the GOP screwing over the American people once again.

And the base loves it.
No one in the history of the world did a better job of protecting big banks, than you beloved Big Ears.

Well just trying to bring balance to the discussion. Do you disagree it?

If only all Americans would come to understand that there is no difference between Ds and Rs. They are like Mafia families...criminals all.

This is no surprise. Screw ordinary people? Cant happen. Some will condone this....they are corporate worshippers. But corporate America controls the nation and they have a firm grip on it and keep telling us how great it is.....laughable. can't fight it though because working folk don't have the money to compete with these omnipotent ill begotten greedy untrustworthy plutocratic entities. Christian cannot be attached to their titles in the end.

And then higher prices to the consumers who have to pay for the class action lawsuit. No more phishing bullshit. Win, win, for the US citizen.

That would be a great argument to stop requiring automakers from issuing safety recalls! My brother's Pinto would light up like a zippo lighter if hit in the rear, but, by god, it was cheap!
Strawman as usual... Why would McDonalds have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to a stupid bitch who put her HOT coffee between her legs then get in an accident that burned her legs? Phishing...

good point. Let's make suing McDonald's illegal, too. Then, when they poison people, they can take them to arbitration....if they live.

Why would that be a class action lawsuit?

Are you THAT confused?

It's NOT a win win for the consumer....

we have financial institutions taking out as many as 1-4 new credit cards on your account all on their own and doing it to millions and millions of their customers so they could meet quotas from their headquarters on opening multiple accounts on their customers....

that's an example of a class action suit that should happen....

why in the world should any citizen or citizens be told by our government that we can not redress grievances with private corporations of any kind?

this is just plain wrong, on so many levels.

Apparently, the business of the federal government is to protect Wells Fargo from evil consumers.

Have people lost the ability to comprehend what they read? There is no outlawing of class action lawsuits, all this did was allow institutions to put wording in their contracts that tie the person to arbitration vice a class action suit. If people do not like that idea, then they can have the contracts changed.

Right! When I get apply for a credit card at Wells Fargo, I will simply insist they they rewrite the contract on my terms!

Or go with a different bank offering better terms.

According to the GOP bill just past, the "free market" requires that congress pass a law protecting ALL banks from class action suits. Why, that is what the "free market" is all about, isn't it?

That is not what what the Senate did, you need to quit reading whatever news source you are using, they are lying to you.

There is no bill.

The Senate removed a rule, they did not make a new bill or make a new rule, now there are less rules which means the market is just a little bit more free.

but it was a new legislative Bill, a bill to remove the previous rule....

Why would that be a class action lawsuit?
And, why would republicans want to protect the financial industry against class action lawsuits?

Wells Fargo, Awash in Scandal, Faces Violations Over Car Insurance Refunds

Wells Fargo account fraud scandal - Wikipedia

Wells Fargo's scandals just won’t die

Wells Fargo Scandals Expand With Firing of Foreign Exchange Bankers

These are just a few from the last year or so, just for ONE bank.

And saying that the republicans are trying to curb abuses of class action trial lawyers is a joke. if they wanted to do that, they would allow EVERY business to require arbitration.

This is so transparent that even a Trump supporter knows that that dog don't hunt.

Great. So, the next time that the financial industry causes a major economic crisis like they did with mortgage derivatives in 2008, wiping out trillions of dollars of America's wealth overnight, we will each call in an arbitrator when our houses are repossessed.

It doesn't say you cannot sue them!

Class action suits favor the lawyer, not those ripped off.

I had a class action lawsuit that notified me that I got $23,00 back out of a multimillion lawsuit. How much did I lose? Probably ten times that much. How much did the lawyer get?

That's better than getting nothing but chump change out a class action lawsuit.
