Group to fly Confederate flag; NAACP opposes

yeah Missourian :eusa_eh: :eusa_whistle:

It's not something I can explain to you if you haven't lived it.

Southerners are friendly...

Not like in general, like, you are my friend until proven otherwise.

There are no strangers in the south.

We respect our elders and each other.

I'm 42 and I say 'Yes, sir' and "yes Ma'am" fifty times a day...and my folks don't live here...this is to other folks than family.

I open my wife's car door.

Family and heritage are extremely important.

I know my great-great grandparents names, professions, where they lived, where they are buried.

Great aunts and uncles.

Military service as well, super important.

I served, my brother served, my father served, my uncle on my mothers side was a navigator on a B-24 Liberator during WWII, two of my fathers brothers were Infantrymen in WWII. Three of my great-uncles served in WWI...and so on...

What I have personally found is that Southerners are friendly....if you are visiting. They like your money. If they find out you are staying.....it gets cold and ugly.......fast.

My parents are from the south and I have been told the stories. Hell I wouldnt even be here in CA if my grandpa hadn't laid to rest one of the local klansmen for disrespecting my grandma. Had to get out of there in a hurry!!

I wish Republicans would just go ahead and fly this flag during their conventions. It was say so much about what they stand for.

Yeah. If a bunch of inbred, gap-toothed, third grade educated, welfare trailer park redneck hicks want to advertise their ignorance to the world, that's their right.

You're damned straight Cleatus !

I'd just like to point out, our resident asswipe understands the difference between your and you're, as he defends apparent inbred, gaped-tooth, third grade educated, welfare trailer park redneck hicks with a cheer. I don't know where that leaves some of our guys like Corky.

Mississippi Declaration of Secession

I would be proud of that too if I was a member of Stormfront.

Must have took some deep digging to pull out Mississippi.
The last state in the country to ban slavery.

How many Northern slaves were freed by Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation?

No not really. It was the first one I found. Is this a quiz? Who cares how many were freed? I already said I know Lincoln did not free the slaves because he was so against it. Heres one that might let you know what your up against. Did it even free all the slaves in the South?

Good to know I'm not debating another USMB mouth-breather

Believe it or not, the vast majority of Southerners nowadays really DO just care about honoring the fallen and don't care about the slavery.

Shit, guys....twice America has elected a black man for President.
You do know that couldn't have happened without, at least, SOME of the southern people voting, right?!

it just gets tiresome to constantly see 'racism' attached to the south

Too bad people that fly that flag cannot be shot for treason. The South lost and it will never ever rise again thankfully. What that flag stands for is slavery and the lifestyle it afforded those that believed in it.

Come try it.

We have more guns and are better shots

If you say so. it would take 15 of you to handle me.

A .22-250 goes about 4000 feet per second. So...how fast can you run again?

Yes sir..no sir...I spent some time in Mississippi. I am retired military as well...didn't seem to matter. You see, I am black.... I have never seen shit like that before. I mean ever and I have traveled a lot. That state...at least where I was is extremely racist. It's easy to see things from your eyes...good for you. I am telling you from my eyes, its horrible.

Where were you?

Mississippi is like 40% black. Some of the counties are 70%+ black majority.

I used to pick up logs and timber products in some of the majority black areas, lots of churches, rural towns. Good hard workin' folks. I liked it there. A lot of sitting on the front stoop drinking sweet tea.

Don't you feel a little silly though..you are proud of one of the biggest mistakes this country was involved in? Slavery is something to be ashamed of and celebrating it seems dumb. Oh well, ya lost. Perhaps that is what you are proud of?

Not "proud" of any of our Wars.
Can you not read?

I can be proud of my war-dead ancestors.
Whether it's WWI or the Civil War or Vietnam.

I am truly sorry if that intrudes on your victim mentality

I lived in Richmond most of my life, and if I remember my history correctly the Civil War was initially about the industrial North creating financial problems for the less industrial South when it came to costs for manufactured goods. The abolitionists jumped on the Northern bandwagon and made slavery their focus for going after the Southern states. It seems the only thing remembered, though, is the slavery part.

Richmond is very rich in Virginia/Southern history from colonial days forward. There are a number of museums dedicated to history. A trip to Virginia means that going to Williamsburg and Jamestown are MUSTS for tourists. Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, and multiple other "Sons of" and "Daughters of" groups are well entrenched in Richmond. Aside from the major history museums, Richmond also has the Edgar Allen Poe House and Museum, the John Marshall House, the original St. John's Church (where Patrick Henry gave his famous "Give me Liberty ..." speech is a very well-kept historical building that still has an active congregation, Civil War homes and other buildings are still standing and in use today, there are multiple battlefield sites in and around Richmond. The list goes on and on.

On a personal level, I have never liked anything about Richmond. It's a dirty and dangerous city and, personally, I think the place is cursed - really. Flying the Stars and Bars would be a logical action in Richmond and if it's on private property ... . I can understand that this flag is a sore issue with blacks - particularly since Richmond City is more than 50% black. It's very poorly run, and to make matters worse it has nothing much in the way of a tax base to support everything that needs to be supported. If this King Salim Khalfani is the same NAACP leader who was there when I still lived there, he's a backward, uneducated jerk who is so lazy his lips don't move when he mumbles. Nobody can understand him.

An old saw in the South.

Do you know the difference between a Yankee and a Damned Yankee?

A Yankee goes home.

I don't think all southerners are racist at all. I've dated a few and had friends that were from the south. I love being where people are friendly and hospitable. What I don't like is the tolerance the south has for the illiterate ones that spoil your image. You are correct about the president being elected and that gave me some hope that things were changing for the better. Now it just seems like the racists were caught by surprise both times.

Trust I'm over the slavery thing. I do pretty well for myself and call my own shots. That doesnt mean I love people that are klan members. I do like laughing at them getting upset because people actually are against what they stand for. They are the ones that need to get over it. They lost. I didnt.

I have a question which I somewhat hesitated to ask you in the previous thread. You were telling about your life story ( in general) and that you had to always overcome it against the evil white man - what exactly does that mean? Unless you are 70 or 60 years old what kind of discrimination could you have encountered specifically due to being AA? Affirmative Action has been around since 60s so it is not institutional racism, obviously.
Personal interaction with people always involve some kind of discrimination - even in a land where everybody is white - because people have their own prejudices - against redheads, against those who limp, against those who live in the upper part of the town and so on. Everybody in their lifetime has encountered discrimination. It is unavoidable, it is part of life and the sooner one gets over hurt feelings - the better.
At least that is how I always was taught and experienced.

No running. Military trained sniper and Special Forces. I'd hand you your azz on a platter before you knew what happened.

Oh good grief, here we go...another Vietnam era SEAL.

And the Republicans tried their best to stop them from voting.

This is what Republicans did. This is what they actually think about "voting rights". They squat on liberty.

At least that is how I always was taught and experienced.

I was explaining how I learned not to let hate hold me back and give me an excuse to end up in jail or at some minimum wage job. I had a white cop put a gun to my head at the age of 9 and threaten to shoot me while he liberally applied the N word to our conversation. All I was doing was walking home from the playground. I was stopped and searched almost weekly by the cops for no reason as a teenager. Stuff like that. I thought it was all a scheme to keep me down.

Can only go down hill when people get personal. Otherwise we are just having a conversation. If it was going downhill I would vacate the thread.

Without getting too specific, where did this happen?
