One veteran Republican operative fretted to me that Jindal sounds like he has fallen under the sway of bad consultants who have spun him around and loaded him up with tired lines that evoke a C-SPAN call-in conspiracy montage. That certainly sounds plausible. Better still, it offers the hope that he will wake up one day soon, fire whoever’s behind this disastrous tough-guy reinvention, and spare all of us any future self-indulgent ravings.

It would seem Jindal felt the need to recant his heresy of trying to make sense in the GOP.

Yeah, eliminating the income tax and shifting the tax burden onto working people HAS made Piyush really unpopular.

But let's look at what happened here. After Romney lost, Piyush admonished the crazies in his party. Even though he had engaged in quite a lot of the crazy himself.

Now he's going full out bore crazy again.

It strikes me that Piyush doesn't have any philosophical grounding, he just says what he thinks will get him votes.

Just like calling yourself "Bobby" will make people forget your parents named you "Piyush".

Correct.

His tax proposal would have been a massive ass fucking of Louisina retirees, right and left, and that's primarily why it failed. Imagine paying income taxes all your life, retiring on a modest income in which you pay little or no income tax - and then being told you're going to have to pay up again through more sales tax? The sales tax in most places in Louisiana is already > 8% - he wanted that to go up to > 11% AND raise tobacco taxes to boot! Sorry Bobby - that was just dumb.

And the entire argument he presented as to WHY this should be dumb is absurd. It was a revenue neutral proposal - meaning no additional funds would be returned to the local economy. Essentially he's telling people with low incomes that if you just give us some of your money so we can cut taxes for the rich- eventually, your lot will be even better - just trust us on that one!

It is not only a burden on working people, it is a burden on blue states who collect enough state tax revenue to pay for their citizens. Red states like Louisiana suck the tit of the federal government and ALL taxpayers have to subsidize red state welfare queens.

As it turns out, it is red states that are overwhelmingly the Welfare Queen States. Yes, that's right. Red States — the ones governed by folks who think government is too big and spending needs to be cut — are a net drain on the economy, taking in more federal spending than they pay out in federal taxes. They talk a good game, but stick Blue States with the bill.

Take a look at the difference between federal spending on any given state and the federal taxes received from that state. We measure the difference as a dollar amount: Federal Spending per Dollar of Federal Taxes. A figure of $1.00 means that particular state received as much as it paid in to the federal government. Anything over a dollar means the state received more than it paid; anything less than $1.00 means the state paid more in taxes than it received in services. The higher the figure, the more a given state is a welfare queen.

Of the twenty worst states, 16 are either Republican dominated or conservative states. Let's go through the top twenty.
