House GOP: mandate Ultrasounds before abortions

"It's the economy, stupid!"

Oh, wait, no, it's abortion:

House Republicans Propose Bill Mandating Ultrasounds Before Abortions

Actually, there are THREE new things being bandied about:

Shortly after House Republicans had to cancel a vote on an anti-abortion bill that some members found to be too extreme, GOP congressmen on Thursday introduced three new abortion restrictions, including one that would require women to receive an ultrasound procedure before an abortion.

The mandatory ultrasound bill, introduced by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) and co-sponsored by 10 Republican men, compels women to "receive an ultrasound and the opportunity to review the ultrasound before giving informed consent to receive an abortion."

One of the other bills prohibits federal education funds from going to schools with access to an abortion provider on campus, and the other requires states to report information on Medicaid payments to abortion providers.

Since when has the GOP become the party of big government?

Discuss.

No reason for women to have the most up to date information before the make a life altering decision, is there? Without it can there really be informed consent?

Yes. They have been doing it for years without it.

Yep, without the complete picture. Pun intended.

You don't need an ultrasound to perform an abortion.

You don't need an ultrasound to perform an abortion.

You don't need an MRI to perform brain surgery either, but they give doctors and patients a better understanding of the situation and can predict possible complications.

Bill Frist, the Republican Senate majority leader in 2005 and a transplant surgeon, said it was clear to him that Ms. Schiavo responded to external stimuli, a pronouncement based on his having seen a videotape of her?

An autopsy on Terri Schiavo, the severely brain damaged woman whose death sparked an intense debate over a person's right-to-die, showed that her brain was severely "atrophied," weighed less than half of what it should have, and that no treatment could have reversed the damage.
Amazing to me how quick you people are to kill off defenseless life forms. Yet this is your platform right? Kill off anything not born or not able to defend itself and you are all in.

Who decided she had a right to die, you? Did she have a right or did you think she had a duty to die? How many unborn children have chosen the right to die?

We spent years without penacilin too. Should we just skip the better knowledge part? You claim to be the party of science after all.

It was the Christian Vegetable debate. When a pea brain shows no brain activity in certain regions of the brain, can the Church still claim it is sentient and a viable life

We should call it "partial death abortion."
Why not? I'd have no problem with whatever the fouk you want to call it. How about we call your posts partial brain activity?

And while we're at it, we'll call this thread partial real outrage.

"partial real outrage"

:wtf:

This is where you and I agree more than you realize. You shouldn't lump Liberals all into one group, that is a dangerous assumption.

Non-sequitur. The baby is being aborted, dude. There is no scientific or medical reason for it to have an ultrasound.

Odd how Republicans are so pro-life right up until the fetus is born. After that, 'fuck 'em'.

And there is no scientific or medical reason for a child that is going to be aborted to have an ultrasound. Period.

Of course, the argument can be made that no child should ever be aborted. But even for every rule, there will be exceptions.

The decision is entirely the mother's.

You'r bitching about an ultrasound bill that goes directly to informed consent so I'd say your against it.

Really, where did you get your medical degree? Like I said, up to date imaging can give the patient and doctor information that is not otherwise available and can prevent unexpected complications. You can deny it all day but that won't make it true.

Perhaps, but do Republicans want to mandate MRI before brain surgery? Do they have any other medical procedures they want to mandate?

It always amazes me how flippant the left is when you talk about life and their eagerness to end it.

One simple question: is an ultrasound procedure good medical practice?

Is an ultrasound a MEDICAL requirement in order to undergo an abortion?

If not, isn't the ultrasound just politics?

Why are politics in a medical clinic making calls that have NOTHING to do with medical practice?

Is this what Conservatives mean when they rail against a government that intrudes on personal lives?
