Their hostility towards traditional religions is that of an animosity towards a rival religion. They can be identified by an external locus of control. When Obama drew his red line in the sand, Republican Senators said sent a letter to Obama saying that he needed the permission of Congress to bomb Syria and to do it without that consent, was unconstitutional. Trump tweeted in 2013 that Obama needed Congress to approve it. Obama asked and was turned down.

It wasn't Obama who refused to make good on his threat - it was the Republican held US Congress. That's why Trump didn't ask. So don't try to pretend that you give a rat's ass about the Constitutional Republic. Neither your nor the Republican Party cares about anything other than power and beating Democrats.
