Why did black families abandon southern share cropping and move to major cities?

Jobs, good paying jobs.
Jobs where a man could support his family.

During WWII, those manufacturing jobs boomed and black families prospered. By the late 1960s, those jobs left the cities and black families were left behind.

Welfare filled the void

There were a lot of post WWII government programs whites got that excluded most black people. Then when jobs left, it got even worse. But all along the majority of welfare recipients have been white.

For one, there seems to be an ironic correlation between states with conservative politics around sex education and contraception and high rates of teen pregnancy and birth.

Manufacturing abandoning the big cities destroyed black families. When the breadwinner no longer has employment, welfare steps in to feed the family.

Welfare is the solution not the cause

The reason blacks left to the cities, was to escape Jim Crow laws that were widely ignored in the cities.

In fact, most think that black turned away from the Republican party in the 1960's because LBJ signed the Civil Rights act, but that would be wrong. Again, another myth.

Before 1871, there were 21 straight Black elected to Congress as Republicans, but after that there were 43 straight democrat congressmen elected.

Manufacturing jobs they moved to were low skilled. Blacks were restricted from more complex jobs that were reserved for white employees with relatives and friends with union contacts.

No, they left the Jim Crow areas that would not allow them a job with a decent wage or maybe refused to hire them altogether. They left areas that would not even allow them into a restaurant or pump gas for their car, etc.
