If The Senate shuts this down....

I like to believe that most Americans agree that this should at least look like justice has been served. The form of the trial leaves senators plenty of time to examine their life choices that led to this sorry situation where conservative lawyers will be arguing that abuse of power and obstruction are not impeachable offenses. It's anyone's guess if it will goad any of them to honor their oaths.
You mean like the partisan hit job by the House?
Sucks for Trump all he has in defense is to attack the process like some obviously guilty Mob boss. He is counting entirely on every republican putting him before the party and the country,
So your whole defense of the third Riech style impeachment is sucks for Trump. Rules were set in place during Johnsons impeachment. They were again agreed upon when it looked like Nixon would be impeached. They were again agreed upon when Clinton was impeached. So we have over 140 years of agreement on the rules of an impeachment. Suddenly the democrats want it changed because : well Trump won an election.
When Clinton was impeached democrats were grabbing every microphone they could and yelling that impeachment MUST NEVER be partisan. Now not only was it completely partisan but they could not even get a completely partisan vote.

The Dems claimed that impeachment was a sad and very somber affair. Yet during the signing they were handing out souvenirs, laughing, shaking hands. The only thing missing from the party was champagne and the dancing girls.

The Dems claimed that there was such a danger to our country that they could not take the time for courts to make a decision on exectiutive privalage. Yet sat on the articles for almost a month. Now faced with the fact that there might not be enough to assure a case in the senate but that things might be treated as partisan in the senate as it was in the house Dems want to impugn the republicans.

If the senate has to call witnesses and documents, has to make the trial for the house then there is no need for the house at all in the impeachment process.
Now suddenly it has occurred to Warren and Bernie that this has been timed to keep them out of the caucuses and push Biden into the forefront.
How do you think that Bernies people will react with him being cheated a second time?

Looks as if it is dirty, partisan politics as usual for the Dems. Lie, cheat, change anything needed to gain the control they want.

Nice analysis. The Dimms are orchestrating this shitshow, except in the Senate! :death:

THOUGHTS FROM AN INDEPENDENT

It's crystal clear that Senators Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham are eager to sweep this Senate impeachment trial under the rug, shut it down, and allow no new evidence or witnesses. But what happens if they try to do that? Will other Republican Senators march in lockstep, and try to deal with the coming election fallout in November? Will they break ranks and join the Democrats in insisting documents and witnesses being suppressed by President Trump be revealed? Recent polling shows:

71% of Democrats, 56% of Independents and 40% of Republicans say Senate should call additional witnesses to testify.

51% say Senate should remove Trump from office.

Either way, Senate Republicans are in a tough spot. Do they cave in to public opinion and hold a fair trial? or do they cave in to Donald Trump and risk being removed from office in November?

JMHO - Too close to call right now.

We don't care. Just end this fiasco.

For what? They will just start another one. And they will continue to hound Trump until his last day in office. Hopefully, they lose the House and we pickup more seats in the Senate. That would shut them up for Trump's second term.

Bogus impeachment!

How can even you put any trust in an impeachment process that was started even before the man even took office?

Trump's second term is all gravy. He should just give it back totally. Nothing to lose. Many of these men and women have very little concern about the citizens. Its more about the party and agendas. And we see it in all the colors.

No, he's not, nor has to. It takes 2/3 of the Senate for removal.

Unfortunately republicans will march lock step with trump and mcconnell.

The last thing republicans want is for the whole truth to be shown to the American public.

This trial will be nothing but a joke. It will further divide our nation and do a lot of harm.

I sure hope that we have an honest and fair election in November. If we do, the republicans will not have much of a chance for reelection. Which is one of the reasons why mcconnell and the rest of the republicans are doing all they can to prevent the whole truth from being shown to the American public.

I thought all the truth came out in the House hearings.

It's both funny and pathetic to see the people who were perfectly fine with the partisan shit show put on by the House insisting the Senate put on a fair and bi-partisan trial. I have said before and will say again the Senate is going to be partisan in the way they handle this but no more so than the House was in the way they handled their part in it.

Lies. The house did call these people. tRump obstructed.
Lie, and no matter how many times you are fed that lie nor how badly you need to believe it executive privilege is not obstruction.

Like Creepitus you believe in the fairy tales that performing the duties of his office or being a "poopy-head" are impeachable offenses.

MCCONNELL: “If the existing case is strong, there’s no need for the judge and the jury to reopen the investigation. If the existing case is weak, House Democrats should not have impeached in the first place..."

Dems have been trying to make their case for years yet obviously even they are aware that the House's case is weak.

There were no violations of US Code that appears in The Articles. Going on 4 years of investigations and Millions of taxpayer dollars wasted by The Democrat Party to try to over turn an election and literally not a single crime was able to be pinned to The President.

The House Inquiry was crooked, slanted and biased and broke evidentiary rules and Due Process.

I have no problems with a crooked case being tossed.

I'm sure that will take place if we also dominate the House as well. Trump winning is a shoe-in. That's what Democrats fear the most. So our real focus should be on the House. Piglosi will not only be the first female SOH, but one that lost her position twice in her career.

So they are charging him for failure to obey the House when there is No Such impeachable charge standard And obedience compliance is not part of his duties.

Trump winning is a shoe-in.
Ya probably shouldn't be saying that bro...that was the mistake the hillary-billys made

They made the mistake of thinking that going to the polls were unnecessary because Hillary was so far ahead. Remember, Democrats are lazy. They make a big fuss over getting a voter-id. It takes quite a lot to drag these welfare people to vote. Now, we Republicans are more inspired than ever. We don't just want Trump to win, we want to slaughter the Democrats.

So far no convincing post has been presented by the supporters of trump. I suppose the theory of their defense is that everyone but they and trump are liars. The irony which they will never admit, and likely can't even comprehend, is that lying to mislead the public is daily ritual coming from the White House and the words of The President at rallies, pressers and in tweets.

You cannot prove a negative. You also cannot prove someone innocent. Hence, that is our system of justice.

It used to be our system of justice, it changed when the GOP members of Congress continued to attack HRC, and disappeared when trump led his mob in the chant, "lock her up".

BTW, your comment does not jib with my post, your dishonesty is noted once again. I can provide evidence which is probative and no credible rebuttal can attest that trump is not a consummate liar.

How is calling witnesses fair? The House did not call these people, so why should the Senate? You numbers are indicative of the poor education these people received. Most of them probably don't vote.
You better hope they do not vote.

Ironic, since you are posting in a thread started on the premise of attacking the process.
I took the OP to be speculation on the open question of how many republican senators will just go along with trying to sweep it all under the rug in spite of the damage it will do to the republican party. The political calculations being done by republicans right now must be a cause of great torment to them. They earned this mess by telling the president he had their unconditional support no matter what.
Not like Dems haven't been squirming since Trump won.
This whole affair is in hopes that they can either force Trump out or create enough dislike to make their candidate look better.

To tell the truth I hope that Trump wins a second term, the house and senate go to the Republicans with enough of a lean that no matter what is proposed the Dems don't have enough to shut it down.

Then just for giggles I would love the house to propose to exhonerarte his impeachment just I could watch Pelosi have a stroke.
We already know republicans want a permanent one-party state and an absolute plutocratic ruler.

That's the Democrats you're speaking of. Why do you think they became the anti-white party? They are doing it because once the white majority is gone, they can have a single-party government forever. Just look how other groups vote.
I don't see anything about white bread run of the mill rural dumbasses that is worth preserving if it means we have to forfeit fair elections and government accountability.

It's the liberal portion of the DNC that is guilty of most of that, some of us care/know about what the PC crowd is up to and are cheering for trump to take them out.
