In 2006 Obama voted to filibuster Supreme Court Nominee Alito

What is your point?

Democrats blocked specific candidates and eventually allowed the Republican President to fill the seat

Republicans are denying Obama the right to fill the seat at all

They have the power to do that too. Elections have consequences. You lost the House and Senate. Suck it up. All your whining on USMB will change absolutely nothing.

They do have the power to do that and will be the first Senate in history to use that power in a partisan power play

No doubt Republicans can exploit their newfound power to prevent a sitting President from naming a Supreme Court Justice

Likely outcome

1.Dems take Senate and White House and put in a young liberal to replace Scalia

2. Dems can now use the political precedent to block Republican Presidents from naming a Justice if an election is within two years

Actually, we can get vain predictions from far more experience people than you who are actually paid to offer their opinions. Thus far, most all of them are befuddled at being so completely wrong on their predictions.

What outcome do you think Republicans will get?

Do you honestly think Republicans will take the White house AND Senate in 2016?

Long shot

Hey einstein. The repubs already have the senate. And they will retain it for sure unless obozo lets 10 million illegals vote .

Well, they certainly have an excellent chance of doing so since they already have the Senate and the House. All they need do is win the Presidency. It's not nearly the long shot the Democrats have to achieve.

There is a new election in 2016 and Republicans have to defend 34 seats in a presidential election year
Dems only defend 10

Naturally, the media has censored this factoid from the past.

First President in US History to Have Voted to Filibuster a Supreme Court Nominee Now Hopes for Clean Process

may 30 2009 On January 2006, then-Sen. Obama joined 24 colleagues in a futile effort led by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to filibuster the Supreme Court nomination of now-Justice Samuel Alito.

On January 29, 2006, Mr. Obama told George Stephanopulos on "This Week" that he would "be supporting the filibuster because I think Judge Alito, in fact, is somebody who is contrary to core American values, not just liberal values, you know. When you look at his decisions in particular during times of war, we need a court that is independent and is going to provide some check on the executive branch, and he has not shown himself willing to do that repeatedly."

There is a difference in blocking a nominee and blocking the right of a President to nominate someone

When have Democrats EVER prevented a Republican President from eventually filling a seat?

Are you really that dumb? No one is blocking Obama from nominating anyone. He can nominate fifty should he choose. The business of vetting the nominee will never come to the Senate floor.

Again, Republicans are breaking new ground by doing so

No Democratic Senate has refused to consider a Republican Presidents nominee

Do we really want to go there?

Are you brain dead?

I see you've got your cut and paste going full speed. Nothing original to post?

Ummm.....do you actually understand what cut and paste is or are you just copying what the grownups say?

I probably understand what communicating in this format is all about far more than you appear to do. I am more than capable of creating original prose and would gladly do so - if I felt the individual I was addressing was intelligent enough to accept and digest it.

Then looks like the burden is on you to prove my prose is not original

Google it and show where I copied it

Silly rabbit....the accusations are the evidence.

Its like you've never even met a conservative.

Facts that don't mean a damn thing until the votes are counted.

Republicans continue to whine.......Democrats do it too!

Alito and Thomas were approved by the Democrats. They are both arch conservatives. They both gave conservatives a 5-4 edge in the court

Republicans are refusing to even allow Obama to fill a vacant seat regardless of who he picks. They are outraged that he would pick a liberal even more so that it would give the liberals a 5-4 advantage

Can you see the difference?

Clearly...Obama himself agreed to filibuster one appointment, and voted against BOTH. Now that he is President he says it is the Senates job to up/down vote...when before it was OK to filibuster.
So yeah
