Let me try to complete the impossible and educate some of you libtards and TDS sufferers using real numbers.

My property is taxed at $39,675.

The current value is $280,000.

The difference is over $240,000, which is $40,000 more then we paid for it.

If I sell it for the current value, am I defrauding anyone? The state sets the tax value, not me.

I had no idea there was that large of a difference.

It depends on what state you live in.

Most states appraise property about 20% below market value.

But some States like Florida, does not....

Because they have so many seniors, and didn't want the situation where retired fixed income seniors would be property taxed out of their homes, they set it up that property values and property taxes could only rise a certain percentage each year from when you purchased it....like 2% or 3% max a year....

So if you bought a $30,000 home 30 years ago it may only be taxed at a $50,000 value today, but if you sold it, the market value could be $350,000 today. The person buying it at the $350,000 would then have a cap on their property value beginning at the $350k with a maximum value rise of the 3% from that amount onward, each year....

Or something like that....

Most states/localities reevaluate your home's assessed value every year to be about 20% less than actual market value.... They need the tax monies so your taxes go up as your market value goes up.
