The process for which life (plants and animals) gets crushed into useable hydrocarbon fuel takes millions of years. When a pile of wood decomposes fully per definition 100 years it does not separate into two jars of Co2 and H2O. It turns into topsoil, where it then becomes food for other plant life. Pack it under layer after layer for a million years and, yes, it becomes some form of hydrocarbon fuel. But it ain't "wood" - it isn't identifiable as "wood" after 100 years....
