That's a question in the body of this article about Russian declaring a “Holy War” against the Islamic State.

We read all the whining about Putin propping up Assad and siding with Iran. Most claim it's an effort to fill the power vacuum left by the weak leadership of Obama.

But, this has been brewing since 2012. The Russian Orthodox Church has been warning of the threat posed to Christianity by the Islamic Caliphate and Putin has apparently heard their call. Even the Reverend Franklin Graham, the son of the late Evangelist Billy Graham, supports Putin's efforts.

It's not so much a “power grab” as a defense of his own country against radical Muslims within his own borders.

Iraq Won’t Wait Any Longer… Finally Turns To Putin To Do What Obama Refuses To Do @ BREAKING: Iraq Won't Wait Any Longer... Finally Turns To Putin To Do What Obama Refuses To Do The Iraqis reached out to Putin to call for him striking ISIL positions in Iraq.

A whole lot of former alliances seem to be crumbling.
