Judging A Presidency

1. For a successful Presidency, Perception is the means, Protection is the end.

2. After all, isn't the protection of our nation the reason for choosing one candidate over another? We judge their vision, usually based on their resume, their experience, if they have any in an executive capacity. Or, if none of the above, the vision that he communicates to the rest of us.
If there is another basis for the selection.....it is usually a mistake.

3. And we learned to do this....early on. After all, didn't Chris Rock explain to us that the President is, like, our father, or 'the boss.'
Heck... what kind of father is unable to protect his wife and children?
And a boss cannot husband his business costs us our job. "The president and the first lady are kind of like the mom and the dad of the country," ... Chris Rock Calls Obamas 'Mom and Dad of the Country' During Gun Control Rally in Washington - The Hollywood Reporter

4. What does 'perception' entail?
It means an awareness of the elements of environment; it means being quick, acute, and intuitive; a capacity for comprehension.
But isn't that a description of each and every one of us, to a greater or lesser degree? Well....then why not pick a name out of a hat and be done with the election?

a. In fact, William Buckley, Jr. had pretty much that idea: “I would rather be governed by the first 2000 people in the Manhattan phone book than the entire faculty of Harvard.”

5. What it comes down to, is that we expect our President, carefully chosen, to have the perception to see what is the most advantageous set of actions and courses, to protect our nation from danger, and to steer a course toward success. True?

6. I recall a couple of chapters in James Frazer's "The Golden Bough: A Study in Magic and Religion" in which he explains how primitive societies chose their king, one who would serve as intermediary between the people and the gods...and get plenty of rainfall, good crops. etc. He had to know the correct way to placate the gods, and produce the best outcome. Perception is the means, Protection is the end.
And woe betide the king who didn't do his job.

7. So....how about the 'dad' we chose...and put in charge of our house....the White House?

a. Did he convince you that he had the perception, the correct vision necessary to fix the economy? After all, he said “if I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.” Fact Check ? Obama and the ?One-Term Proposition? - ABC News
So....is welfare "getting it done"? Food stamps and government doles instead of employment?
"The civilian labor force declined by 496,000 over the month, and the labor force participation rate decreased by 0.2 percentage point to 63.3 percent." Employment Situation News Release

b. And who would say that 'dad' made the world a better place based on how he's handled the Middle East? Threw out leaders who kept things stable, and favored America, and supported rebels who favor radical Islam in Libya, Egypt, Iran, and now, even in Iraq.
"Al Qaeda in Iraq and Syrian rebel group Jabhat al-Nusra make it official." Al Qaeda in Iraq and Syrian rebel group Jabhat al-Nusra make it official - CSMonitor.com
What can be said about his perception? Is this what he foresaw and wished for....or was a case of incomprehension?

c. How's this for "Perception is the means, Protection is the end,": more nuclear threats in the world today, and our 'dad' proposes to cut down our nuclear weapons?

But when it comes right down to it....perhaps he had the perception to judge the stupidity of those who voted for him....not once, but twice.

LOL. PC still can't get over the fact that the majority of American Voters rejected people with her political philosophy. Watch out for 2014, PC, a lot of people are really fed up with the obstructionism of the far right Teabaggers and wingnuts.

lets see now, is it obstructionism to refuse to let any budget bill hit the floor of the senate for almost 5 years? is it obstructionism to ram obamacare up our asses without allowing anyone to read it or allow any debate before passing it on a strictly partisan vote?

very true. the usa was very ill prepared for WWII when it happened. We had a very weak army and a hurting economy. what we did have was the capacity to manufacture and the war gave us customers in need. what people forget is during the early stages of the war we ramped up our capacity, shifted from production for civilian needs to military and sole every thing to the allies. FDR had a golden opportunity dumped in his lap. With Bush, it was just the opposite. we were paying and consuming what we produced. so we incurred the debt.

another thing about FDR, while he was credited with starting the entitlements program, his entitlements where a lot different from todays. in FDR's world, you didn't have a check mailed to you which you cashed and then sat on your ass all day. You got a check for work you did. he provided programs that provided jobs. but you went where the work was. you wanted a job you got your but out to Arizona and built a dam or out to Kansas and built a road. it wasn't a free hand out. we built an infrastructure in return. Democrats weren't always the weak willed socialist liberals of todays world. todays liberals have taken a concept that held merit and turned it into a crippling anchor to the country. by turning the programs into free give aways, the have not only created a class of dependent people, they have encouraged it to grow and attracted a class of people who are more than willing to let someone else pay their way

"...FDR, while he was credited with starting the entitlements program, his entitlements where a lot different from todays. "

You're right, Spoony....but let's not give the guy more credit than he deserves.

1. He destroyed any constitutional restrictions due to the enumerated powers when he declared a "Second Bill of Rights."

2. He caused the mortgage meltdown when he created Fannie and Freddie.

3. And, although his programs were not as deleterious as LBJ's....FDR brought the 'camel's nose under the tent.'
The New Deal originated the AFDC program. Until the Great Society, however, AFDC had the exclusive purpose of providing for widows–previously married women who had lost the breadwinner in their homes.
Johnson and Congress quietly changed AFDC qualifications to include any household where there was no male family head present, a shift that made virtually any divorced or single mother of low income eligible for taxpayer money. The incentives of the program made it financially more lucrative not to be married than to be married.

FDR ended the American experiment as it was originally created.
[No...I'm not forgetting about Wilson....]

Thanks so much, Rocks....I really appreciated those.

Just a question....why is it you don't seem to want to respond to the various posts that you link to?

'Cause they're true?

Ya' know....I have to agree with you.

I can't get over the abject stupidity of so many Americans.

“You Will Never Go Broke Underestimating the Intelligence of the American Public”
Barnum had a point.

Then again....when one views the school system.....it all fits.

My children have kid's joke books where the humor is more sophisticated and effective than your pathetic attempts at the medium.

I make jokes about you for the same reason that Lord Byron wrote this:

“And if I laugh at any mortal thing, 'Tis that I may not weep”

Hard to accept that there are adults who 'think' the way you do.....

It's what saddles the republic with mistakes like Obama.

After you guys gave us Bush, you are critical of President Obama? :cuckoo:

And they defended Bush to the bitter end of his disastrous presidency. By December of 2008,

three out of four conservatives still approved of the job Bush was doing.

with the exception of the stupid Iraq invasion, Bush did a pretty good job, not great, but pretty good.

Why is it that you libs continue to support obozo after everything he has done has helped destroy our economy, our culture, and our international reputation?

The labor force participation rate peaked in 2000.

labor-force-participation-rate-march.png

Why don't you start a thread crediting Bill Clinton with achieving those eight years of net increase in the participation rate,

or start a thread blaming Bush for presiding over an eight year long net decline in the participation rate?

Why don't you that as opposed to trying to invent a new way to blame Obama for something?

thats about the only thing I have ever agreed with you on. an attack by Iran on Israel is the most likely action that would start another world conflict. the question is what would obozo do if that happened.

To date, Obama has shown himself to be a badass when necessary and reserved when it is called for

right, he reluctantly gave the OK to hit OBL. what else has the fool done? Oh, I forgot, he showed what a badass he was by bowing to the saudi king like a fucking peasant. what an embarrasment this guy is on the international stage.

Killing OBL was a badass gutsy move. If he failed it would have cost him a second term

Bush waited almost a full year before he started to make meaningful moves to stop an economic collapse. Denial will be his legacy

Okay, I have to ask, what exactly has Obama done to destroy our culture?

1. Tell us what has been destroyed, exactly.

2. Tell us how Obama singlehandedly destroyed it, exactly.

He had many choices..

He could have respected Pakastans sovereignty and had them make the raid
He could have leveled the compound with a cruise missile

Sending in SEALs was the most risky proposal

It will be interesting to see how the presidential expert historians and noted historians rate Obama at the end of his terms in office. I think their only rating of him thus far was in 2010 with Obama's two years in the White House and they rated Obama as America's 15th best president and Reagan 18th.

Is that the same Saudi king that Bush kissed?

here is the truth. if the budget for a program was going to increase from 100 to 110 this year, the sequester made the increase to 108. If that 2% growth reduction affected your programs I am sorry for you but its the obama admin that chose which programs to cut. I guess they don't like you. did your company support Romney? this could be pay back from the kenyan.

what??? what does my company have to do with Romeny? you make no sense. Maybe you just don't understand these specific budget cuts, apparently.

Which all administrations attempt to do in good faith, including the current administration.

Whether they’re successful or not, however, is a matter of partisan perception; the actual, objective success of a given administration can’t be accurately evaluated until years, indeed decades, after the end of that administration.

During the post-War period all administrations – both democratic and republican – have adhered to the same fundamental framework concerning both domestic and international defense; to state otherwise is naïve and ignorant, or the perception of a willfully ignorant partisan.

Administrations come and go, but the basic structure of the military/industrial complex remains static; career military, intelligence, and security personnel ensure policy consistency.

How many presidents have been accused of destroying our culture? But it is true our culture has changed over the years, just think of what just the Model T Ford did to the culture or even computers.
