Neither am I surprised by the reaction to his comments. He is entirely correct in his assessment of our wandering from legislative procedures for establishing laws by way of the legally elected representatives of the people toward establishing laws by way of edicts issued at the whim of pompous government officials suffering from a narcissistic personality disorder.

Our Democrat Governors, Mayors and other "elected leaders" seem to lose their senses of obligation to the voters once they establish themselves in office.

Check out the link below. The definition of NPD fits our Democrat big city Mayors and our Democrat state governors to a Tee.

Symptoms

Individuals with narcissistic personality disorder, according to the DSM-5, exhibit five or more of the following, which are present by early adulthood and across contexts:
  • A grandiose sense of self-importance
  • Preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
  • Belief that one is special and can only be understood by or associate with special people or institutions
  • A need for excessive admiration
  • A sense of entitlement (to special treatment)
  • Exploitation of others
  • A lack of empathy
  • Envy of others or the belief that one is the object of envy
  • Arrogant, haughty behavior or attitudes

Historically, it is highly unusual for SCOTUS justices to publicly opine on issues that the may have to rule upon.

It calls their legal objectivity into question.

As Alito mentioned in his response, the opinions he voiced have already become public knowledge in his arguments presented regarding court cases already decided.

Did you bother to read the linked article? It included:

In a statement to USA Today, Alito defended his statement, saying that the points he made in his November speech followed the same line of argument he made in a previous Supreme Court opinion he authored about the issue.

“Virtually every substantive point in the Federalist Society speech was taken from one of my published opinions or an opinion I joined,” Alito said. The justice is the court’s fourth-most senior member. He also added that he was “not surprised by the reaction.”
