Kris Kristofferson dead at 88

Personal life and death

In 1961, Kristofferson married his longtime girlfriend, Frances "Fran" Mavia Beer but they divorced in 1969.[10][50][51] Kristofferson briefly dated Janis Joplin before her death in October 1970.[50] His second marriage was to singer Rita Coolidge in 1973, ending in divorce by 1980.[3][50] Kristofferson married Lisa Meyers in 1983.[50]

Kristofferson and Meyers owned a home in Las Flores Canyon in Malibu, California,[32] and maintained a residence in Hana, Hawaii, on the island of Maui.[50] Kristofferson had eight children from his three marriages: two from his first marriage to Fran Beer; one from his second marriage to Rita Coolidge and five from his marriage to his third wife, Lisa (née Meyers) Kristofferson.[52]

Kristofferson said that he would like the first three lines of Leonard Cohen's "Bird on the Wire" on his tombstone:[53][54]

Like a bird on the wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free
Kristofferson died at his home in Maui on September 28, 2024, at the age of 88.[55][56]

Damn, his movies were few and in between, but still good. Joplin sung some his songs, her voice, I loved her voice. I saw her a The Filmore West, Kristofferson briefly on stage.

It stands for HH. And no, I won't say the phrase.
Sigh.

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin' for a train
When I's feelin' near as faded as my jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down, just before it rained
And rode us all the way into New Orleans
I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana
I's playin' soft while Bobby sang the blues
Windshield wipers slappin' time, I's holdin' Bobby's hand in mine
We sang every song that driver knew
Freedom is just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin', don't mean nothin' hon' if it ain't free, no-no
And feelin' good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues
You know feelin' good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee

I posted it on the other Kristofferson RIP but here it is again. Legend has it that he was employed as a janitor and he was a National Guard helicopter pilot. He wrote a song that he wanted Johnnie Cash to record so he took his helicopter to the Cash compound and handed the song to Cash in person. Cash recorded "Sunday Morning Sidewalk" and it launched Kristofferson's entertainment career. Willie is the only member of the "Highwaymen" left. It looks like Kristofferson was a regular guy who never took his celebrity status seriously. RIP

He had an awesome resume.

No he didn't. I never liked him. Not when I was young and not later when I got older and started appreciating old movies.

This woman at my work thinks this is a great song?

I'll go check out your wiki and see if there's anything I liked.

This was a era that I believe movies sucked and I'm sorry but this music is horrible. And people try to say he's a great song writer.

Help Me Make It Throught the Night

sucks
Me and Bobby McGee? Janis Joplin?

Yea,

For the good times (1970)

This era sucked. Or this genre in this era because I actually love the 70's music. Just not this music. Lame, cheesy.
