Five models peaking at a cat 5. Eight or nine more as a cat 4. Harder to read estimated intensity on landfall, but the consensus appears to be that it strikes as a high 3, low 4.

There's basically no more disagreement that the strike will be on Tampa Bay - the only question is whether it makes landfall north or south of the mouth.

This is virtually guaranteed to rival Katrina for damage and long term population displacement. There's no part of the state that has such a large population, who are so poorly prepared for a hurricane.

As of last night, one of the major LE agencies in the area still hasn't even emailed their staff to say "there's a hurricane incoming and we have plans". Disaster response across TB has been lacking for years, because until Helene there hadn't been any real damage to speak of in decades.

This member has proven accurate on FL bound hurricanes over the years.

Hopefully shear from the north will knock it down a bit to a strong cat 3 at landfall but folks in the Tampa/Clearwater areas are already getting out.

BTW.....Yeah, a "dupe" but due to the explosion of overnight strengthening I thought it worthy of it's own thread.

Andrew sawed right through Florida several years ago from the opposite direction...this one looks rough too.

Damn, it's went from a Cat 3 to 4 in just two hours!

Milton strengthens into Category 4 hurricane, triggers storm surge warnings for Florida's Gulf Coast

Life-threatening storm surges are expected to hit Florida's Gulf Coast this week with the arrival of Hurricane Milton, which was upgraded early Monday into a Category 4 hurricane over the southern Gulf of Mexico.

The storm first strengthened into a Category 3 hurricane by 7 a.m. and by 9 a.m. ET rapidly intensified into a Category 4, the National Hurricane Center said.

Data from Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicated Milton has estimated maximum sustained winds of 150 mph.

It is worthy of its own thread.

The speed at which is strengthened is remarkable.

With the addition of Milton, the predictions by NOAA were not all that far off.

Usually these storms start in the Atlantic coming from Africa and then move into the Caribbean.

Now they're appearing out of thin-air in the Gulf.

Last month meteorologists said this was the most quiet weather-wise they've seen in 50 years. All of the sudden right before the election we've had 2 major hurricanes wiping out areas full of Trump voters. Democrats are saying that Trump voters won't have things set up in time to vote in November.

My, what a coincidence. 2020 we had COVID. This year we've had hurricanes.

A real poser.

Sarasota County just mandated evacuation of areas A and B.

They also mentioned level C be ready.

Carry that shit someplace else.

Apparently some think man can heat up the world with CO2 emissions, but can’t increase the power of a storm.

Weird!

The top greenhouse gas in our atmosphere is water vapor.

That's why Dover TN gets much more rain than Clarksville TN....because they're next to Kentucky lake.

All you need is something to cool the air and all of the sudden you've got thunderstorms.

My neighbor's house is in St. Pete and she is going to list it for sale in January, When Helene went thru and actually damaged some homes in her neighborhood, her neighbors called her here and said her house came away unscathed.

And now there is no way it is going to miss her house this time, it is headed straight for it.

If EOTS and 911insidejob were still here they would be proud of you.
You have to admit that Democrats have a tendency to take advantage of one crisis after another.

There's plenty of evidence that they have a habit of creating their share of them as well.

Just because it sounds crazy doesn't mean it's not happening,
