Marriage Matters: Consequences of Redefining Marriage

I'm starting to get behind this "get government out of marriage" kick some conservatives are on...

Just think of the money saved! No more military married benefits, extra moving allowances, base housing, etc. We're talking Billions here! Not to mention all the revenue when married folk don't get tax breaks anymore...

Hey, let's go there
No more Social Security or Medicare survivor benefits, no tax breaks

When you get married your spouse does not exist in the eyes of the government

Reparations? To whom? Anyone that claims to be queer?

Suddenly I feel the urge to wear a feather boa and listen to show tunes.

No...but I'll take the extra money I've been paying for my legal spouse's healthcare because of DOMA. We've been legally married four years now.

Ending the Gay Health Care Tax
Wouldn't it be nice to get all that back money? Not gonna happen tho.

Yeah, it would be nice...it's a huge chunk 'O change. Companies like Google actually make up the difference for their employees. Alas, the plight of the poor Public Servant.

Indeed!

And you have only scratched the surface!

Queers should support eliminating:

Splitting Income
Higher Standard Deduction
Favorable Tax Brackets
and the Home Gain Exclusion.

That married joint income tax filers enjoy.

:eusa_angel:

I bet that would really help their popular acceptance poll numbers!

Could anyone please, in one post, clearly and succinctly, identify one bad consequence of giving same sex marriage equal status with opposite sex marriage,

and then explain why that consequence is sufficiently bad that it justifies the government opposing this?

Just ONE, please?

the children of queer marriages will be denied either their mother or their father....

this has the potential to cause both personal and societal problems...

Studies of the children of gay parents prove you wrong. Our children are at no disadvantage to yours.

"studies"....? yeah i bet those studies are really unbiased too....i doubt that there has even been enough time and subjects and studies to do a thorough job of it....there have been studies on single mothers and the ramifications to the child are very negative...

do the "studies" you mention cover the pain of a child who wonders who his real mother or who his real father is....? who wonders who his ancestors are on the 'lost' side of his family....? who has to deal with half a family who are not related....? who prefers to skip father-son outings because he has no father...? who is the butt of jokes or insensitive questioning at school....? who wonders who he really is....? and so forth....? these are things that are almost impossible to measure in a 'study'....

even a child who has experienced divorce knows who both his real parents are...

'gay marriage' is not the same thing as marriage....

(speaking of divorce....i've heard divorce rates for gays and lesbians are even higher than for straight couples....)

Yeah, see! That's even MORE money. Look at the DOMA case. The Plaintiff had to pay over $350,000 more in taxes because the Federal Government didn't consider hers a legal marriage. Big bucks...

Obviously the 14th Amendment is needed now as any time in our Nation’s history.

Deep thoughts, Clayton.

But I'm pretty sure the Congress that Ratified the 14th in 1868 were not focusing their efforts so that anyone could claim to be queer, then become "married" so they could enjoy married privilages.

But now that the GLBT community has revealed horrible consequences of discrimination, we should no doubt eliminate all spousal benefits associated with marriage.

When Congress in 1868 ratified the 14th amendment they could have had it apply only to former slaves. They chose not to and used broader language

Prophetic

Yet they mention Indians specifically.

I suppose you can use your imagination: Perhaps the entire 1868 congress was queer, and planned the whole ratification so that one day, when being queer was popular because Degenerates got their own talk shows on TV, queers could be married.

:clap2:

The fact is that kids do not need a mother and a father. If they did, it would be illegal to be a single parent. Instead, single women have babies all the time, and no one bats an eye.

Did homosexuals start procreating??

You want to defend marriage?

Why not ban divorced people from remarrying? They'd have already defiled the institution of marriage more than gays have

The intent of the 14th Amendment, as confirmed by its case law, is to ensure, among many other things, that persons in a given jurisdiction not be subject to the ignorance, hate, and tyranny of the majority; that all persons would be entitled to due process of the law in every jurisdiction; and that every person is afforded equal protection of the law in every jurisdiction.

They spoke for all future Americans. Women, gays....

Prophetic, don't ya think?

No one ever said it was.

In fact, there is no such thing as ‘gay marriage.’

There is only marriage, contract law as written by the states; and all persons are to be allowed access to that law, both same-sex and opposite-sex couples, as mandated by the 14th Amendment.

who needs to ban it....? half the kids today are already products of of non-married parents....

Secularism has already eroded our divorce laws.....today people can run around like rabbits.....get married for a couple hours or so....marriage has no real meaning anymore...the 'gay marriage' thing is just another tool to destroy marriage...

Godless Secularism also promote promiscuity....prostitution....pornography.....perversion....

That's a fascinating concept, i.e., that only by being married can same sex couples have a child in the equation.

How does that work exactly?

It's not redefining marriage. It's giving legal recognition to one form of marriage that has always existed but has been traditionally discriminated against in the eyes of the law.

what's 'fascinating' about a child being raised by two queer 'dads' instead of his real dad and his real mother...?

And how did this happen, exactly? lol, you don't get someone else's kid as a wedding gift in a same sex marriage.

There have been quite a few studies in recent years and they have come to the conclusion that Children in gay adoptions at no disadvantage

Did you really ask that? Are you aware of how long adoption has been going on?

who prefers to skip father-son outings because he has no father...? who is the butt of jokes or insensitive questioning at school....? who wonders who he really is....? and so forth....? these are things that are almost impossible to measure in a 'study'....

Lots of studies on single parenting too.

even a child who has experienced divorce knows who both his real parents are...

My children know who their real parents are...my spouse and I are their REAL parents in all ways that matter. Legally and emotionally (as well as biologically). I gave birth to both of them (with gay sperm) :D so they know who their donor too.

'gay marriage' is not the same thing as marriage....

Really? Tell me how it's different...

I get up, make coffee, post here, take a shower, wake up my son, make his lunch, feed the animals, kiss my daughter and spouse goodbye, drop him at the bus stop and go to work where I toil 8 hours. I get home to a clean house and a home-cooked meal because we decided that one of us being home for the kids at all times was important. We work on homework, watch some TV, read and go to bed...to do it all over the next day.

How is my marriage "not the same"?

(speaking of divorce....i've heard divorce rates for gays and lesbians are even higher than for straight couples....)

You heard wrong.
