McConnell has admitted that it is hugely important to raise the Debt ceiling. He admits that it would be a disaster for the economy to not do so and yet he is using the filibuster to block the bill that would raise it.

He claims that Dems could use reconciliation (which under Senate rules can not be filibustered). The problem is that reconciliation is a huge bill and takes far more time than we have . McConnell knows this. He's an expert on Senate rules and procedures.

So what is he doing? He's gambling. He's pushing our economy to the edge of the financial cliff. He is betting that Republicans will take back Congress either in 2022 or 2024.

Dems are talking about "nuking" ONLY debt ceiling bills regarding the filibuster and leaving the rest in place. That would mean that Republicans can still block large parts of the Biden agenda.

McConnell will use that as an excuse to TOTALLY nuke everything and blame it on the Dems. That's what the cynical bastard did with Judicial Appointments. He blocked almost all of Obama's lower court judicial appointments and even Cabinet appointments. As a result Dems removed the filibuster for those appointments but left the filibuster in place for Supreme Court appointments.

McConnell used that as an excuse to nuke all judicial appointments. He'll do the same here

Dems will probably HAVE to nuke the filibuster for the debt ceiling but they'd be stupid to stop there. It will be gone anyway really soon and if THEY don't nuke it...they will have lost the opportunity to push through the Biden agenda.

Of course the stumbling point are the conservadems Sinema and Mancin who don't seem to know what party they represent.

Same way McConnells antics forced Dems to abandon the filibuster on low level judicial appointments

McConnell is irresponsible with the filibuster
Needs to be taken away from him

You actually believe we live by the Constitution? We had real freedom with people at times treating each other like shit. Now we have political alliances treating people like shit aligned with the government. With a side dish of people treating each other like shit.

Filibuster is not in the Constitution
It is a Senate rule that needs to be abandoned

Sinema and Mancin who don't seem to know what party they represent.
The above sentence highlights everything that is wrong with politics today Manchin and Sinema along with the rest of Congress Democrat and Republican represent the people not the party they belong to.
And the people...those who voted for those two conservadems...want the debt ceiling raised and both infrastructure bills passed.

You Nazis destroying our democracy once again.

How high is enough for the debt ceiling?

$100 trillion?
High enough to pay existing obligations.

The debt ceiling is not "about" spending. It's about how we pay for spending already approved (obligations).

In essence raising the debt ceiling is akin to writing the check to pay bills.

NOT raising it will put us in default and crash the economy.

McConnell had admitted this but doesn't give a shit

I believe you are entirely correct.

If we "nuke" the filibuster we need to ask ourselves "what will the republicans do when they get back in the majority"? Whether it happens in 22 or later, it is gonna happen again eventually, and they are just gonna go completely ape-fucking-shit like they did with judicial appointments.

The only way this works is if we do it first.

It goes beyond having just a majority in the Senate
You have to have the House and a President to sign the bill

Right now, Dems have all three
They need to use it.

I am willing to risk Republicans winning all three

More or less why Joe Manchin says he opposes ending the filibuster. Anyway, the debt ceiling will get raised. It always does. Even if it doesn't, it is not the end of the world. The fed just switches out its existing bonds it owns with those that otherwise would be in default. They have like $4.5T in bonds just sitting around gathering dust.

I'm ok as long as we do it first. The human infrastructure bill and the voting rights act have to just be the beginning.

Actually, the most important one is the one that's done last.
