Capitalism at ITS WORST

And taking ADVANTAGE of Americans and other wealthy country's citizens...

the same regiment of 84 pills

IS ONLY $900 in Egypt!!!
$90,000 in the USA, $55,000 in Canada

that's just bull crud if there ever was bull crud

It cost them near nothing to develop the drug....

The reason it is priced the way it is,

is because the PHARMA company took the average cost of treating a patient with life long drugs, the cost of life long complications from having the disease, the lifelong cost of all the visits the person with the disease would pay in doctor visits, the cost of kidney or liver failure treatments and added that all together, to come up with the price of what they were going to charge for their drug treatment.

HOLY moly, mother of goodness!!!!!!!!! or just simply, holy crap!

THUS THEIR LOGIC TO PRICING THE DRUG AT $84-90K in the USA.

Sovaldi costs about $130 to manufacture, reinforcing how outrageous its pricing is. Gilead claims that the pricing reflects the value of Sovaldi and it deserves a premium because of downstream health savings. Following that logic, all antibiotics have been vastly underpriced since the introduction of penicillin some 60 years ago.

The Sovaldi Tax: Gilead Can't Justify The Price It's Asking For Hepatitis C Therapy - Forbes

It cost them near nothing to develop the drug....

Right. Only $11 billion.

Sovaldi costs about $130 to manufacture

$130 a pill and it cures the disease and reduces the number of $500,000 liver transplants.
Sounds like a bargain.

Gilead, the company that bought the company that developed this drug paid 11 billion for the whole company, not just 1 pill...

charging in 12 weeks, for what it costs spread out over an entire lifetime of average medical cost for the disease is unethical....

it'll bankrupt every nation out there, including us...

THANK GOD, the developer of penicillin didn't take this simply GREEDY approach!

Yes. $11 billion. Not "near nothing to develop the drug...."

charging in 12 weeks, for what it costs spread out over an entire lifetime of average medical cost for the disease is unethical....

The entire lifetime of average medical cost is poor health, liver failure, liver transplant or death.
Compared to $84,000, good health, no liver failure, no liver transplant.

So who has that kind of money that is Isick with this?
How is that market price?

This is only happening because they know governments have that kind of money they can milk for it.....
Please don't be fooled in to thinking this is capitalism driven by a free market and supply and demand...

It isn't experimental anymore.

To the state it is. Luckily for your sister, the federal government has supplied funds for it, if she has healthcare.

Of course, if you talked her out of signing up for Obamacare you're SOL.
She hasn't opt out of anything, but she hasn't signed up for obamacare either. What good is insurance if no doctor will take it. She's having a problem finding a doctor that will take her medicaid. Her previous doctor dumped her for "non-compliance" because she didn't lose weight. Food Stamps don't pay for fresh fruit and vegetables, they pay for pasta and potatoes, rice and beans.

Funny you should follow all those lies with " truth shall be supreme" or whatever. ..

Do you know what a market price is?

Sounds like an argument to get government out of healthcare.

market price, is what individual people are willing to pay for an item.

NOT what the GOVERNMENT is willing to pay for an item....that is INTERFERENCE with the free market...

and yes...long long long before Obamacare... government has been involved in manipulating the market...

It took on the very costly elderly, with paying for medicare coverage, giving insurance companies the biggest gift horse of all times...

The government gave employers tax write offs, so what they paid for insurance for employees was considered salary and thus deductible as a business expense, then there is the medicare pill bill where the gvt has a pact with the Devil that we CAN NOT NEGOTIATE for bulk discounts for our medicare prescriptions and made it illegal for us to go to another country and buy the pills from them at a lower price...the government is supplying healthcare through Medicaid....the government funds medical schools, the gvt gives grants for medical students and for nurses, and for their schools, the gvt funds research and development for PHARMA and for medical technology...and then there is the gvt that allowed insurance companies to not stand on their own anymore, and allowed them to invest in other areas of business...and when these businesses the Insurance companies invest in drop on the stock market or in value, the Insurance companies raised health insurance prices to cover their losses in these other areas of business....and even licensing of health insurance companies with each State's gvt....

The government IS UP TO ITS EYEBALLS in healthcare....

And the government is screwing it up.
It's amazing any company is still willing to invest billions to create new drugs.
