Mississippi church goers sitting in their cars given 500 dollar tickets.

Why would you drive to a church parking lot to listen to a pastor on the radio?
Democrats don't understand church, God, Easter, worship, and faith. It is also beyond the scope of this thread for me to explain it.

In the Bible "the church" wasn't a building people gathered at. .
Yes and no.

"The church" is the INDIVIDUALS m the king up the Body of Christ

They are COMMANDED to ASSEMBLE regularly -- particularly on the Sabbath

When does the Bible command you to gather for the Sabbath?
'Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation (COMMANDED ASSEMBLY)

The term holy convocation is not in the Bible.....a day of rest....yes. Which does not mean you are required to attend church serevices...just means you are not supposed to do any work.

See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near

That does not mean you are required to meet every Sunday
  1. “I am the Lord thy God, thou shalt not have any strange gods before Me.”
This commandment forbids idolatry, the worship of false gods and goddesses, and it excludes polytheism, the belief in many gods, insisting instead on monotheism, the belief in one God. This commandment forbids making golden calves, building temples to Isis, and worshipping statues of Caesar, for example.
  2. “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”

The faithful are required to honor the name of God. It makes sense that if you’re to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, then you’re naturally to respect the name of God with equal passion and vigor.
  3. “Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.”
The Jewish celebration of Sabbath (Shabbat) begins at sundown on Friday evening and lasts until sundown on Saturday. Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox Christians go to church on Sunday, treating it as the Lord’s Day instead of Saturday to honor the day Christ rose from the dead.
  4. “Honor thy father and mother.”
This commandment obliges the faithful to show respect for their parents — as children and adults. Children must obey their parents, and adults must respect and see to the care of their parents, when they become old and infirm.

  5. “Thou shalt not kill.”
The better translation from the Hebrew would be “Thou shalt not murder” — a subtle distinction but an important one to the Church. Killing an innocent person is considered murder. Killing an unjust aggressor to preserve your own life is still killing, but it isn’t considered murder or immoral.
  6. “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”
The sixth and ninth commandments honor human sexuality. This commandment forbids the actual, physical act of having immoral sexual activity, specifically adultery, which is sex with someone else’s spouse or a spouse cheating on their partner. This commandment also includes fornication, which is sex between unmarried people, prostitution, pornography, homosexual activity, masturbation, group sex, rape, incest, pedophilia, bestiality, and necrophilia.
  7. “Thou shalt not steal.”

The seventh and tenth commandments focus on respecting and honoring the possessions of others. This commandment forbids the act of taking someone else’s property. The Catholic Church believes that this commandment also denounces cheating people of their money or property, depriving workers of their just wage, or not giving employers a full day’s work for a full day’s pay. Embezzlement, fraud, tax evasion, and vandalism are all considered extensions of violations of the Seventh Commandment.
  8. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”
The Eighth Commandment condemns lying. Because God is regarded as the author of all truth, the Church believes that humans are obligated to honor the truth. The most obvious way to fulfill this commandment is not to lie — intentionally deceive another by speaking a falsehood. So a good Catholic is who you want to buy a used car from.
  9. “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.”
The Ninth Commandment forbids the intentional desire and longing for immoral sexuality. To sin in the heart, Jesus says, is to lust after a woman or a man in your heart with the desire and will to have immoral sex with them. Just as human life is a gift from God and needs to be respected, defended, and protected, so, too, is human sexuality. Catholicism regards human sexuality as a divine gift, so it’s considered sacred in the proper context — marriage.

  10. “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods.”
The Tenth Commandment forbids the wanting to or taking someone else’s property. Along with the Seventh Commandment, this commandment condemns theft and the feelings of envy, greed, and jealousy in reaction to what other people have.
Where did I mention Sunday?

Catholics and others can do as they please.

The BIBLE and Jesus provide the example we're to follow. Not a man.

You have my permission to worship -- or not worship -- as you please.

A GOOL said the Scriptures do not COMMAND meeting together. I showed that it does.

Believe, or dont. That's between you and God.

No you are wrong....there is no scriptural commandment that anyone must attend services on any day of the week....which means friday for the muslims, saturday for jews and 7th day adventists and Sunday for most Christians ....protestant, catholic or Baptist.

Now your particular denomination(whatever that is) may require it....care to tell us what your denomination is?

Wrong.

Hebrews 10:25
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

It's not a hard and fast commandment of any sort. Assemble online. Don't do it in person and threaten your neighbors, the ones we are supposed to love.

Not on the sabbath but it does command you to go to church:

Hebrews 10:25
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Jesus never said anything about going to church. He drew a crowd and fed them and gave them instructions. That's it. And this occurred long before microphones, video, and the internet.

Mississippi is not a stop and id state. The Federal law (U.S. Constitution?) is the supreme law and supercedes state and local laws. Thus, the person(s) who gave his/their IDs to the ticketing officers had no cause to do so. They would've had to drag me away in handcuffs, at which time I would have embarrassed them in a court of law.
Know your rights!

I don't care to. It's irrelevant if fellowship is or is not in the Bible. No different than, let's say, an owners manual with your new mower doesn't tell you to mow your grass when it's 4 inches high. You can mow your grass however you want - Just as Christians can meet - whenever and wherever they want.

What part of that says you are required to meet every week?

These governmental restrictions placed on meeting together in large groups where 'social distancing' is not possible are temporary ....only in effect till the virus has been slowed or stopped.

No one is asking anyone to give up 'meeting together' in a general sense as in a permanent sense....we are in a state of national emergency....until that is over everyone should understand the importance of not congregating in numbers in order to try and defeat the chinese virus.

Most churches understand this and are refraining voluntarily from meeting until the all clear is given.

Depends on where you live....anyhow it is not a matter of religion nor a matter of being a Christian thing or not....it is a matter of common sense. These restrictions are not placed on just Churches...but even on social gatherings, restaurants, taverns and casinoes to just name a few.

Now if you live in florida the governor has said he believes churches are essential as in exempt from the restrictions on gathering together in numbers and closely....which makes a mockery of all the restrictions he has placed on restaraunts, taverns, movie theaters, and even schools.

Most locales that have the authority to close down meetings in churches at first try and get the pastor of the church to to it voluntarily and most do.

In a nutshell some religious people have reacted innapropriately and in a hysterical manner imagining a threat that does not exist.

Again the government has no desire to do away with freedom of religion nor of freedom of assembly. Get real....this is America. Most folks understand it is the prudent thing to do to try and defeat the chinese virus....aka social distancing.

Know your rights!

This case in Greenville Mississippi was above and beyond what the police are supposed to do in regards to church meetings I am sure....apparantly they were not even in the church but in the parking lot listening to the preacher on the radio....aka to conform to governmental requests for social distancing.

So either the cop was ignorant regarding his authority or there was some kind of conspiracy by the cop and the mayor of greenville....both of whom are black...to fleece white churchgoers.

Thus i have little doubt that those tickedts handed out will be torn up by the city voluntarily along with issuing an apology...or if they refuse to do that...then someone will take the incident to court wherein the city will be forced to make restitution.

You are the one that does not understand....your interpetation of Holy Scriptures are in error.

Nowhere in the Holy Bible will you find a command that everyone must attend services every week be they Jew or Gentile or whatever. Get over it.

All the government is asking is for folks to use a little commonsense and engage in social distancing until this virus threat is over.

Not even to mention that schools, theaters, restaruants, bars, basketball games etc. have been closed down...not to punish anyone nor to restrict their freedoms but to stop a virus that is killing people....get real!

Isn’t that one of those bright red uber free republican states?

Yes, but Greenville Mississipi has a black mayor and the cop in this case also black....whereas the church goers were white....need I say more?
