I lived for two years 1 kilometer from the largest mosque in Besancon.
Close enough for me asshole.
I saw daily multiple cases of muslim behavior no self respecting 'Westerner' would stand for.

One of their favorites was to walk past a 'Western' woman then turn around and spite on her back as she walked past.
Little things like that. And they liked to make hissing sounds whenever they were near a 'Western' woman.
Need to take a shit? Just squat down and do it on the main street. Need to take a leak? Go for the windows on the nearest 'Western' grocery store.
I saw it daily. They were very common place events.
Their object was to drive any descent human being away from what they perceived to be their own territory.

In response to the title of the thread: I think one of the problems is that it 'appears' to have taken a while for muslims to 'realise' that the decent thing to do following the various and many massacres of innocent people conducted in the name of Islam (whether one accepts that claim to be accurate or not), would be to condemn these barbarous acts and the perps, and condemn them unequivocally and without qualification. If you listen carefully, often in the past anyway, these 'condemnations' really didn't seem to be condemnations at all, saturated as they were with 'buts' and 'howevers' and so on. Another problem is that a lot of people are aware of the practice of al taqiyya and kitman, so whilst it may be true that it's damned if they do, damned if they don't, it's not the fault of the sceptics that it is acceptable in Islam to lie to non Muslims to safeguard, promote and defend Islam and ones beliefs. The doubters can't take responsibility for that, and being aware of the practice makes one cautious. I don't see how that can be helped.

The flaw in all this is that the whole pretense of "Muslims" (as a whole) "think this" or "should be condemning that" ----- is entirely dependent on a commercial sensationalist media whose prime objective is not to report news, but to make money for itself.

And that means "we" have no access to any such voice or vision of what "the Muslim world" (whatever that may mean) thinks. It does not sell papers to report that X thousands/millions of Muslims denounced the latest terrorism. It DOES very much sell papers to show video of twenty people dancing for joy over 9/11, because in the latter you have an emotive connection, and emotion draws attention, and attention sells papers.

Way too many wags on this board continue to draw their impressions of "Muslims" -- as if that's some kind of monolith -- from this heavily distorted/edited source, seemingly oblivious to the real character of that source that makes it completely unreliable to reach any such conclusion.

Thank you for your response and for pointing out the alleged flaws in my post. However, it seems there are some flaws in your own Understanding of what I am saying, or maybe I just don't express myself clearly enough for you? For starters I don't believe that 'all' Muslims think as one, that is an absurd idea - for example there are Muslim terrorist scum and there are Muslims that don't conduct terrorism and don't overtly condone it, there are Muslims who don't conduct terrorism but condone it to various degrees, there are Muslims of different sects and so on. However, in the past a great many public 'condemnations' of slaughter and butchery have been issued so heavily laden with qualifiers that it begins to sound as though the condemners are trying to please the rest of us without really meaning it. Then there is the issue of al taqiyya and kitman which you seemed to ignore. That puts a real spoke in the wheel imho. In addition, so much of our press would be utterly delighted to present us with a picture of utter condemnation on the part of moderate Muslims they literally bend over backwards trying to find them, the fact that it's so easy to find them the world over if the believe a cartoon has slighted their prophet but not otherwise is not how much of the press wants it imo.
I think the press work with what they've got here in Europe but that isn't necessarily how they want it at all. We'll have to agree to disagree here.
