He saved our auto industry when it was doing the death-rattle. I despise Obama but nobody else would loan GM and Chrysler enough money to survive. The difference in the bailout and what was paid back to us taxpayers was far less than paying the abandoned workers unemployment and losing their income tax contributions. And it worked...GM is once again making world-class cars and trucks.
And the rich are getting richer because of it.
Had he let it alone, others would have taken over and the profits would have been spread out to more people.

What "others"? Nobody would lend them a dime and without the first bridge-loan (from Bush) they'd have been gone in a number of days. I'm a native Detroiter. You don't make cars "cheaper and better"...it's impossible as the japs have discovered and outsourced many of their processes to Korea and elsewhere. GM got a fresh slate and they've done a terrific job....Obama gets the credit despite his real intentions, like it or not.

These are internal problems - criminal and economic difficulties, not wars with neighbouring countries attacking one another. Things would be much worse if there were insurgencies or wars going on in either of these countries as well.
There were plenty of people with money who would have take the company and turned it into something much more efficient.
If people are buying cars because they are simply GM, they are stupid.
I don't buy GM, but I have to expect that people buy them because they feel they are the best value for their dollar.

HAHAHA. Any industry can be saved by giving it $100B of taxpayer money.
Rest assured the "save" was temporary. The industry will never correct itself now that they know bailouts will always be there.
The two loans to GM were for $49B, not $100B. The save was permanent....GM is THRIVING paying a good dividend with a share price of around $31 and winning design awards left and right. But I don't really care about that...we saved our manufacturing capacity to fight a third world war....Detroit won WW2.

GM is NOT thriving. The whole economy is in awful shape as proven by our incredibly low interest rates. And as long as we keep bailing out failed companies, things will get worse, THINK, america-hater.
