National Review Just Came Out Swinging Against Trump

Holy smokes.

The National Review has collected 35 essays from conservative leaders, all explaining why Trump is a RINO.

"When conservatives desperately needed allies in the fight against big government, Donald Trump didn’t stand on the sidelines. He consistently advocated that your money be spent, that your government grow, and that your Constitution be ignored."

"Not since George Wallace has there been a presidential candidate who made racial and religious scapegoating so central to his campaign."

"A real conservative walks with us. Ronald Reagan read National Review and Human Events for intellectual sustenance; spoke annually to the Conservative Political Action Conference, Young Americans for Freedom, and other organizations to rally the troops; supported Barry Goldwater when the GOP mainstream turned its back on him; raised money for countless conservative groups; wrote hundreds of op-eds; and delivered even more speeches, everywhere championing our cause. Until he decided to run for the GOP nomination a few months ago, Trump had done none of these things, perhaps because he was too distracted publicly raising money for liberals such as the Clintons; championing Planned Parenthood, tax increases, and single-payer health coverage; and demonstrating his allegiance to the Democratic party."

On and on like that. Awesome.

Wasted ink. Righties don't read beyond headlines.

This must be that big conspiracy to keebosh Trump that was talked about in December. BFD. Rednecks don't even know what the NR is. They only know NRA.

National Review never really got back on its feet after Buckley died... I suspect it will follow him to the graveyard sometime soon.

Like I said many Dems like Trump, I have no idea what the ratings are.. I know several who have talked about it.

The people with whom you have spoken are not indicative of Democrats broadly.

Trump is the most unpopular Republican candidate amongst Democrats and Independents, by far.

Trump the Most Unpopular Candidate

RePugs created this shit and they will have to either live or die with it.
Not true Republicans since Jefferson have always wanted intelligent people to vote, as did our Founders. Liberals rely on prisoners and welfare recipients so have always argued that anyone can vote. If only intelligent people could vote elections would not be decided by TV commercials and flashy billionaires.

I would add that in 2012, over 2/3 of high school dropouts voted for Obama, and they accounted for 3% of the vote. Obama's margin of victory was 3.9%.

Romney won every income group except the bottom two, but the bottom two cancelled out everybody else and gave Obama the election.

It's interesting that Trump's response dodged all the relevant issues and simply took a cheap shot at the National Review's popularity.

Another "crazy" who is supporting Trump is Phyllis Schlafly, a long-time, studious, sober, arch conservative leader.

Once again the purists are going to damage the GOP's chances to take the White House. If someone agrees with you 60% of the time, and the alternative agrees with you 0-10% of the time, he is not your enemy.

What's funny is that the National Review represents about 99% of USMB conservatives from back in the day when the Iraq war was a big deal...

...back then they were almost all fanatical neocons. Now all of the sudden they've decided in retrospect that they were idiots.

National Review is not for the "ignorant" rednecks, but for the more intelligentsia of the Republican party and conservative movements.

In other words, the core, the thinkers, the long term planners are the ones speaking in the National Review.

Even if you do not read it normally, K think this is probably their most historic publication since Buckley's death. A real collectors item. i might buy it. At least I can laugh at Kristols and other neocons frantic insane ravings again.

According to this Kasich is their best conservative(fiscal) but the Republicans favor him the least.

I'm pretty sure the reason is that Democrats will cross over to vote for him. The republicans want some one to berate the Democrats....Ted Cruz is already painting them as supporters of illegals and felons--and even use stats to back his statements up.

The more you demonstrate hatred of liberals/democrats, the more Republicans like you!!

I love watching the National Review cling to relevance in an atmosphere that could care less. Trump vs. NR in the hearts and minds of morons? It'll be fund to watch.

Welcome moderates to your new GOP, enjoy the ride, wish you did something about it sooner.

It;s a win, win. Trump doesn't have to answer to his critics and the National Review can look like rebels.

Reagan was not a Conservative. Reagan banned automatic weapons, imposed background checks & 5 day waiting period to buy a gun. Reagan pushed & pushed until he got Clinton to ban assault weapons. Reagan raised payroll taxes eleven times, increased deficit & debt, increased size of government, increased number & percent of government employees, Reagan created The Wallstreet Stock Market "Plunge Protection Team" & used it to manipulate prices, markets & the economy. He caused 2 recessions & GDP growth to slow. Reagan signed the EMTALA law giving away free healthcare by charging everyone else way more. All the presidents men lied for Reagan & he pardoned them for their crimes.

The National Review is where Neo-Conservatism was defined. Today, it's where you will find articles by the most respected conservative writers. I think the condemnation by the Nation Review will probably strengthen the resolve of Trump supporters because the NR represents the establishment, the insiders. This is more evidence that Trump is going to split the party, more good news for democrats. For Trump to win a general election he will have to have strong support from Republicans, something he certainly doesn't have.

Won't be long until we discover the National Review is a commie rag. It's coming.

Yep.

Yep.,

I think the condemnation will do exactly that, and for the reason you mentioned.

I ALSO think that the condemnation will draw vast numbers of fence-sitters to his banner.

...This is more evidence that Trump is going to split the party...
If you add-up all the rank-and-file Republicans who are sick and tired of their own leadership and establishment, that really doesn't leave many under the old banner; we're probably just looking at a Market Correction by which the Republican Party re-emerges as more Populist Party.

...more good news for democrats...
Don't look now, but the Democrats have their own Civil War going on right now.

...For Trump to win a general election he will have to have strong support from Republicans, something he certainly doesn't have.
I wouldn't be too sure about that, i.e., that Trump could not command the loyalty of the party rank-and-file, once he burns down the establishment.

Also, I would not rule-out disaffected Democrats - vast numbers of Blue Collar types - who would rather vote for a demagogue who promises to bring their jobs back on-shore by negotiating tough deals and taking tough steps to make that happen, rather than a Commie who will never be able to work with the next Congress or two.

This is probably going to be the most Atypical General Election that you or I have seen in eons.

It's all about Revolution... it's all about rebelling... it's all about rudely shoving the Establishment aside and bowing to the Will of the People... on BOTH sides of the aisle.

Long-standing Bastions of Elitists like the National Review are being shoved aside by Average Joes who are tired of listening to their unworkable shit, decade after decade...

That 'shoving aside' is also occurring on BOTH sides of the aisle...

Whether it's real or not... whether that momentum holds-up over time... is anybody's guess, but, as things stand now, it's rather amusing to contemplate that...

"Government OF the People, BY the People, and FOR the People" seems to be making a come-back... on BOTH sides of the aisle... and not a moment too soon...

Interesting times.

First signs of the so-called Republican Establishment bowing to the Will of the Rank-and-File...

The Establishment on BOTH sides of the aisle never saw this Populist Movement coming and they really don't know whether to shit or go blind, in reaction.

Safest to be seen siding with The People while things get sorted.

And, if that means bitch-slapping a Traditional Bastion of Elitism and Self-Appointed Definers of Party Purpose, then, what the hell...

Small price to pay, for the opportunity to be seen supporting the Will of The People at this crazy stage of the game...
