Here is a problem with that. I have a Cherokee Heritage along with European. The Cherokee keep painstaking records of who is a Cherokee. The problem is, they excluded quite a few from those logs. If you aren't on the logs then your claim is not considered valid even if you are part Cherokee. If you can prove that you are Cherokee or a decendent of a Cherokee of a certain percentage, you get a cut in the millions that Cherokee generate each year in income for the Tribe. My sister tried to find out about this. What the Cherokee in Oklahoma said was, you may be part Native American but not Cherokee. He suggested she continue her search with the Choctaw. By omitting names from the Cherokee list, they save millions each year and don't have to pay out a dime to the ones omitted.

You can't go with what the Cherokee Nation says. It is based on lies and omissions.

Besides which --- Warren never applied for Cherokee membership anyway. She never made such a claim, yet the OP and his fellow travellers want to erect that as a strawman as well.

I happen to be Irish but I've never applied for Irish citizenship. They'd be two different things.

She benefitted from her claim. That makes it important.

She can't prove it. Like mine, it's family history. She is probably removed enough where she won't qualify for the Cherokee Funds. But, newsflash: The most prolific Indian Tribe is the Cherokee. They had contact with the White Eyes over the most area. And many Cherokee Maidens took White Husbands. It's to the point where one of the last Cherokee Tribal Chiefs had blond hair and blue eyes. If She has a drop of Native American in her, there is a good chance it is Cherokee.

Now, tell me how she has benefited from it any more than I have. The Utes accept me as a Brother, the Sioux accepts me as a brother (for the Sioux, it half brother 3 times removed). The only tribe that doesn't accept me is the Cherokee. But I am enough removed that there is no money to be had from the Tribe. The last person in the family line that might have qualified was my Mother. They do this to keep the money that they receive each year (including Federal Moneys and Casino Money) in the treasury.

If you can prove that you are Cherokee or a decendent of a Cherokee of a certain percentage, you get a cut in the millions that Cherokee generate each year in income for the Tribe. My sister tried to find out about this. What the Cherokee in Oklahoma said was, you may be part Native American but not Cherokee. He suggested she continue her search with the Choctaw. By omitting names from the Cherokee list, they save millions each year and don't have to pay out a dime to the ones omitted.

Nice one. My Great Grandmother was born to an White Indian Agent and a Cherokee Maid. She predates that roll. Therefore, all of us know we are part Cherokee but will not be on that roll. She never got a Birth Certificate and was NOT born on the Cherokee Strip. She was born at the Agents Home which was Federal Property. She, like her mother were never on the roll. That roll is bogus.
