Nestle Moving Out of California

Met a nice couple from California this morning. They and their three children will be permanently leaving in about 3 months. They want the kids to finish school there and then they'll register them for school here. They took the whole family to visit schools in three communities nearby and it was clear that they'll need to start off in the same grade they will have just finished in California to avoid having to take a lot of remedial classes. Brings to mind the signs that were at the California boarder when Jerry Brown was in his first lapse of reality:

Entering California
Lower your expectations

And the ones on Oregon's southern boarder:

Welcome to Oregon
Now go home
They're leaving 'cause they presently live in a "university town" and are tired of having to navigate through riot zones and have concerns about property being burned. Fortunately they both have skills that are in demand so new jobs won't be a problem and, though they may earn a little less, lower property assessments and tax rates (not to mention bye-bye state income tax) will more than make up for it.

California: A great place to be from!
"sour grapes?"

The economy of California is the largest in the United States. As of 2015, California's gross state product (GSP) is about $2.496 trillion. The state's GSP grew 4.1% in 2015.
The economy of CA has always been the largest, dumbkoff.
thank you for making my point;

y'all are just, lousy capitalists.
It isn't because of "liberals", moron. This is a capitalistic nation, comrade, and CA has traditionally been a republican state, funded by oil money. Democraps are new to the party, and busy trying to destroy it.
Exactly. They have ridden the gravy train left by generations of conservative government, and since the left took over 25 years ago we have seen constant decline. Best jobs, #1 in education, best opportunities to prosper. Now we have service industry jobs, education is #49, and no one prospers in California.

Apple 2 campus is nearing completion, with 13,000 high paid employees.

But, oh no, we lost a few paper pushers for a junk food company. We're doomed!
And highly taxed. It's all good. I think the emperor's new clothes are smashing.

Maybe you could list a few companies in China and India that are developing the future of transportation (driverless cars), the future soldier (Google's Atlas robot), the future of medicine (cannabinoids), the future smarthome (Google Nest), or the future of wearable technology on the same level as California.

California's private sector spends $50 billion annually on research and development. A driverless car has a malfunction and the rest of the nation laughs at us. That's the cross we bear. But sooner than later we will completely transform the auto industry. Then others will copy us, maybe some companies will move to horridly humid places with low rent, but by then we'll be working on pilotless flying machines.
So which countries are manufacturing the parts for your driverless vehicles? The hardware/software for the 'future soldier? The 'wearable technology. The 'Smartphones'?
If you believe these countries billionaire businessmen aren't simply taking US technology and developing the exact same or better products themselves to sell to the world you have never met an Asian billionaire businessman pal.
This is what happens when you tax the shit out of people and create a socialist state:

California lost 9,000 business HQs and expansions, mostly to Texas, 7-year study says

Roughly 9,000 California companies moved their headquarters or diverted projects to out-of-state locations in the last seven years, and Dallas-Fort Worth has been a prime beneficiary of the Golden State’s “hostile” business environment.

That’s the conclusion of study by Joseph Vranich, a site selection consultant and president of Irvine, California-based Spectrum Location Solutions.

The NUMMI plant where GM and Toyota used to build cars was converted into a Tesla plant.
Drop in the bucket.

Point is, CA hasn't suffered a net loss of 9,000 businesses. People move out, others move in.
“The optimism about 2017… is an important indicator of both the probability of new additions of new stock being started over the next two years and of opportunities for new investment in multi-family, office and industrial space,” said Jerry Nickelsburg, senior economist with UCLA Anderson Forecast. “This optimism, supported by job and income growth on the demand side and a lack of sufficient building on the supply side, reflects what we expect to be another good run of building in the California non-residential space.”
Point is, it isn't because of commie liberals that CA is the economic powerhouse that it is.

If anyone made that claim in this thread, I didn't read it. I certainly didn't credit our economic prowess to our politicians. I credit our people's level of skill, education and imagination. It was the adventurers, the pioneers and risk takers who migrated west to create something new and exciting and that spirit endures today. I mean, why didn't anyone else invent Netflix, which totally transformed the way people consume movies and shows? It's not a coincidence that it was developed here. Politicians didn't invent Netflix. We enjoy such spoils in California that we succeed despite our politicians.

I like the fact that each state has its own unique character. And if you don't like one state, you have the freedom to move to another. I'm a lifelong northern Californian, can't imagine ever moving away, definately not to southern Cal.

California doesn't try to compete with clone industries that copy our shit and sprout up elsewhere. We invent tomorrow's growth industries, some of which I've already mentioned. The future home, the future armies, the future gadgets, etc.

I'm not worried about Nestle moving. They got public money thrown at them by Virginia and Ohio. The taxpayers of Glendale didn't have to pay for Nestle to stay. No big loss. Congratulations to Virginia, you paid millions for 750 jobs. Good luck with that.
So now 750 people will be 'inventing tomorrow's growth industries, ................. The future home, the future armies, the future gadgets, etc." in Virginia. HAAA HAAAAA!
Silicone Valley is like an old Starbucks who's been in the same location for thirty years.
Yesterday's 'bright shiny object'.
You want to see what REAL cutting edge computer tech. looks like visit one of dozens of Silicon Valleys in China and India.
Even the kids who push the tea carts around have PHDs in computer science and advanced electronic biometrics.

we had to "make room" for newer technologies.
Who's we? Are you claiming that the state intentionally drove businesses out?
lousy capitalists are welcome to improve our average, whenever they want.

Where do you get your fake news from, CNN? California unemployment is rising, it's what happens when you tax and regulate the shit out of people, and then ask them to also pay benefits for millions of illegals.

California’s unemployment rate rises for first time since 2010
You didn't even read your own citation, did you, Idiot?
Yeah well, considering that you have mostly liberal run news in CA it's not unexpected they'll put favorable spin on it.
By explaining how U3 works?

Were you born this stupid, Roud?
What the fuck do you know about CA. People are taxed UP THE KAZOO, the poor keep getting poorer and the rich keep getting richer. Real estate or rentals in safe areas is unaffordable. More people driven to govt paid subsidies while the divide between the have's and the have-nots spreads. A liberal run state about to collapse.
Just national socialist right wing propaganda?

Correct. You need a capitalistic society that allows businesses to thrive without burgeoning taxes and unnecessary govt. regulations.

Yeah, and we see how the left lowered costs and made it all better.
'Cause if like yer doctor, you can screw yourself!

The children of wealthy people are often stricken with affluenza.

In a sense, California has a case of affluenza. We have ridiculous politics because we can afford to have ridiculous politics. There's so much money, and so much demand to live here that we can afford to screw over our farmers with methane legislation. Even though we feed the entire nation (slight exaggeration), agriculture is only about 5℅ of our state's GDP.

EIGHT years later, and the right wing still has no Thing, but repeal instead of a better solution at lower cost.
