I'm not particularly grateful to the rich people who own the company I work for, because I deserve my job and I'm good at it, and they need employees at least as much as we need them. It seems to me that gratitude would imply that they gave me something I didn't really deserve or earn. I am, however, glad that they were hiring right when I needed a job.
