Nuke 'em

Thank you Democrats for coming up with the nuclear option.

Let's get the court seat filled now so he/she can start 8/1/18.

So in another thread it was explained to me what this Nuclear Option is, it is a straight majority which makes sense why you need a Super Majority or whatever is ridiculous, so yes go for it and Good Luck! Can the Democrats do that Filibuster thing on this though?

That will depend on the Senate rules this late in the second year of the Congressional term.

If McConnell can do it, he will.

Until Democrats started Civil War 2.0 it took 60 of the 100 votes to start voting on an issue. So 41 no's could prevent a vote. Very good system since only big issues we all agree upon would be voted upon. The nuclear option is straight majority. I don't like it, but we are at war.

If and when the Senate goes blue in January, the Dems will go majority on everything.

Seriously were none of you people paying attention to the Gorsuch hearings? We already used the nuclear option. It’s done. Over. We don’t need to do it again. It takes 51. period

The idea that a minority of senators should hold up senate business because the majority allowed it to has always been stupid and inefficient

The nuclear option still has to be done each session. It has to be done at the beginning of the session.

I don't believe that is true. The precedent that is established becomes a binding modification of the rules, which will remain in force unless a new rule change is enacted.

Reid cooked it in the soup. He took a cue from Obama and wanted to royally fuck the Republican minority.

no it doesnt. It's the Senate rule. It's default until the Senate changes it

It depends on how the rule was stated. The longest it can last is the congressional term at the most, then the majority can change the rule at the beginning of the next term.

Jake is a tard......the filibuster is a rule, it is not constitutional. they can add or remove it when they want, it has nothing to do with the term.

After Senate Democrats changed the rules to allow simple majorities to confirm judges below the Supreme Court level earlier this decade, McConnell pushed through a measure that made it a 50-vote threshold to confirm judges to the highest court in the country as well. (McConnell did so after Democrats held together and blocked consideration of the nomination of Neil Gorsuch in the spring of 2017.)
What that rule change means is that if all 51 Republicans support Trump's court pick, that person will be confirmed. But a totally unified vote would depend on the likes of Sen Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who have publicly trumped Trump in the past, staying in line behind party orthodoxy.

Let's see what McCain and Flake do, as well as Murkowski and Collins. :)
