Because your boss doesn't want you to. Doing so, in his or her view, will harm your institution and that is quite likely to harm your career.

The fellow in question was not told to lie. He was told not to emphasize certain issues. Instead, he chose to launch into a diatribe on those specific issues. He essentially gave his own personal sales pitch to congress - their funding source - against the specific wishes of his employer. If you don't think such behavior is almost guaranteed to get you canned from any organization, you don't have much time in the work force.

Not all of them. It is only a matter of time before they won't be able to ignore the reality of their error. CO2 emissions will continue to increase as long as world population continues to increase.
