Our president (no matter who holds the position) will get criticized no matter what they do. So IMHO they should just do what they feel is the right thing and forget about the noise.

In this case, I could understand POTUS himself canceling due to the bombing. But that decision was made prior to the bombing. I think even after the bombing that someone should be there. I'd like my nation represented by someone who currently represents my nation - regardless of her current approval ratings.

Truly a mixed bag. She totally dissed the notion of community, or duty of the elite towards the rest of society, and the nation suffered riots based on class and race, not to mention the fact she was utterly ineffecitive in Ireland ... yet, oddly, what emerged is a nation with fewer class distinctions and is aiming more at ethnic diversity than she ever could have imagined.

The television show Commanding Heights, based on the book of that same name, had a scene of home video where she spontaneously burst into lecturing Soldarity on market economics ... and she did it effectively. And Poland emerged more or less as a capital market econonmy.

She broke the mining unions and ushered in a 21st century economy ... but with all the corruption of Rupert Murdoch. Fascinating woman. We view her through Reagan, and even if you didn't like Reagan's policies, he is a difficult man to loath. A very private man, but still a man who really liked people and politics .... so unlike Carter. We tend to view Thatcher similarly, when unlike Reagan she was polarizing. We don't see the disunity and violence her tenure in Britian caused. So, in public opinion, they see a much more mixed bag in her than we do.

This was one of obama's very pointed exhibitions of contempt for Britian. He wasn't invited to William and Kate's wedding. This is obama's way of thumbing his nose.

The British are probably secretly relieved that the crass obama bunch won't create more embarassing moments at a dignified event.

Dubya was invited but declined.

Trying to avoid being arrested as a war criminal and expedited to the Hague.

There is NO envoy going to Thatcher's funeral? I find that hard to believe.

With the Queen attending, Baroness Thatcher's funeral has been elevated to a State Funeral.

This is really truly low class of the White House to at least not send VP Biden. But then, it's Obama after all.

Unlike Thatcher, Obama doesn't want to waste taxpayer's funds on the overblown funeral of a rightwing "small government" "conservative" hypocrite.

Even after this kind of disaster, the kind that normally brings the nation together, obama's new normal is division.

Let's take a moment to think about this. Back up the time machine to 2001. Many Americans were disgruntled about the election because of the questionable results in Florida - right or wrong, it doesn't matter - they were still upset and were certainly unsure about this new President. But eight months laters, when we were attacked, those same people who were so angry just a few months earlier, put aside those differences and stood behind their President giving him an 85% approval rating.

Fast forward to April 15, 2013...where's the same graciousness from the right when its a president THEY don't like? And yet you want to blame Obama for your behavior? Take some responsibility for your own actions and quit blaming others. I thought that's what liberals were supposed to do. And here you are engaging in the same behavior you claim to abhor.

Obama has spent the past four and a half years dividing this country, pitting right against left and left against right; referred to Republicans as the enemy; ran a 'blame Bush' meme for years, etc. Kind of hard to get behind him when he clearly holds so much disdain for so many. What ever happened to him being a uniter?
