Parent Arrested For Protesting Use of Common Core

"The format of the forum did not allow the public to stand and ask a question. Instead, those who wanted questions answered had to write them on a piece of paper. Dance read the questions and had members of a panel, which included state schools Superintendent Lillian Lowery, answer them.

When Small started speaking, Dance told him that he believed his question would be answered, but Small continued to talk. After a couple of minutes, a security guard confronted Small, saying, "Let's go. Let's go."

So again we find another "persecution" article title that is misleading or wrong.

"Small was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, which carries a fine of $2,500 and up to 10 years in prison, and disturbing a school operation, which carries a fine of $2,500 and up to six months."

I didn't see any assault.

I would like to be on that jury.

Not guilty.

They already dismissed the charges.

Here's what happened...the school indicated the person should be removed, their security guard removed him and called the cops, and the next morning, the DA said "what are you fucking crazy?"

When did he say it was an Obama program?

He wasn't portraying the program at all. The purpose was to point out how intolerant and openly fascists mainstream progressives have become, that they are arresting parents who disagree with the regime's current educational plan for our children.

KG, you really need to lay off the sauce...

No, I really don't. Where did he say it was an Obama program, and how does pointing out the arrest of a parent at a meeting = identifying the program being protested as one that Obama put into place?

Critical Thinking 101. Enroll. Because until you do, you will continue to show yourself as nothing more than a lame little troll.

allie didn't read the OP lol. The "security" was an off-duty cop. He showed the mouthy asswipe, who didn't follow the format, his badge. Maybe allie needs common core lol.

You called it an Executive Branch program, which was a lie. The program is sponsored by the National Governors Association, which voted on it, which is majority pub.

They don't need congressional approval.

STATES RIGHTS! STATES RIGHTS! STATES RIGHTS!

heheh

Governors aren't Executive Branch.....?

Really? This is the tack your going to take? Heheh...

Here is your original comment...

"Common Core is essentially a fast track Executive Branch program that did an end run around our Legislative Branches......both in the U.S. Congress AND in all the individual States which are responsible for education....a top-down Federal dictate"

Your intent was to portray this as an Obama program, which has proven to be a lie, it's a program of the pub dominated National Governor's Association. Now you're trying to debate the meaning of the word "is" so you don't look so clueless.

Either you're incredibly ignorant or an incredible liar.

wise up...this program is now in the hands of the Federal level...it is dictating the 'standards'....the States have lost control of their education standards....

those Guvnors all took grants from Obama......kinda like from one Exec to another.....

President Obama and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the Race to the Top competitive grants on July 24, 2009, as a motivator for education reform.[12] To be eligible, states had to adopt "internationally benchmarked standards and assessments that prepare students for success in college and the work place."[13] This meant that in order for a state to be eligible for these grants, the states had to adopt the Common Core State Standards or a similar career and college readiness curriculum.

another involved 'exec' is Bill Gates...

Common Core is a product of the Nat'l Govs Assoc. and all the lunatic righties think it's a federal program.

I can't believe this is controversial. Well, I guess among egg-shaped, cheap carb addicted rural bumpkins who think Earth is 6000 years old, it's controversial.

Lots of security guards are off duty cops.

That doesn't mean they're working in their capacity of an officer when they act like idiots.

Like I said, he wasn't *arrested* by a *cop*. He was strong armed by a goon at the direction of creepy progressive teachers and school board members...

which is the way you guys roll.

One, the rules were made know in plenty of time.

Two, the man knew he could have submitted a written question and have it answered.

Three, the man was allowed to rant for almost a minute before security stepped in.

Four, the cop clearly identified himself as such and tried to quiet the situation.

Five, the man continued to argue at the back of the room for almost two minutes.

No one, not Goofy or Dopey or Righty or Lefty or anybody, gets to ignore the rules and disrupt the public business.

No, disrupting the public business is what being a citizen is about.

You are not the one who gets to decide that. Step along.

you don't see how the lefties are going to dictate national educational standards (thus study material) from the top-down....?

another clueless libtard...

The officer pushed Small and then escorted him into the hall, handcuffed him and had him sit on the curb in front of the school. He was taken to the Towson precinct and detained. Small was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, which carries a fine of $2,500 and up to 10 years in prison, and disturbing a school operation, which carries a fine of $2,500 and up to six months
Parent arrested at forum after protesting use of common core - Baltimore Sun

Should be dismissed. If there is any abuse here, it is the charges. If anyone was assaulted, it was the Parent, Assaulted, and railroaded. Regardless of you claim, the Administration handled it very poorly.

Actually, according to the video and to the witness statements, the man knowingly, voluntarily, and willingly disrupted a public meeting; and when cautioned, continued to disrupt; and when removed to the back of the hall, continued to defy an officer who had identified himself as such.

We are a representative government, not a mob democracy as the far right and libertarians love to keep telling us.

So someone disturbed "the set-up" protocol during a school meeting...like that is something new......is this a valid reason for ARRESTING the concerned parent....?

...it's not like he was shooting or hitting or throwing pies at the school administrator...i didn't see anything of the sort on the video from the time he started his question till the time the 'officer' took him out....

why not just let him get his questions out and then answer them....?
it's because they didn't want to answer them...
no he was arrested for battery on an officer. He wasnt arrested for speaking his mind. you are not being honest with what happened. The "officer" showed him his "badge" around his neck.

He was removed because he wasnt following the plan of the meeting.
That being said again its a stupid format, and the man should have been able to voice his opinion freely without being removed.

naturally they didnt want to answer them, but that is irrelevant. Either follow the rules or get removed. Its that simple. If the question matters that much, wait till you have a more open forum, or write a letter.

what battery....?

When he shook off the officer, in the aisle. Notice the officer moved him to the back of the room, tried to talk sense in to him but failed, and the man committed arrest by intent.

No, I don't. It's another right wing myth. It doesn't exist, like other right wing myths: Iraq WMD, Arabs want Democracy at US gunpoint, voter fraud is rampant, tax cuts increase revenue, etc.

Common Core is a NGA thing. There's no leftist cabal in charge of that. You people are INSANE.

The article states that the perp initially shoved the police officer.
The report also said Small had attempted to push the officer away when he first confronted him.

Not a good idea to shove police officers.

U.S. education secretary Arne Duncan says critics of Common Core standards 'are lying' about federal role | OregonLive.com
Common Core standards are a big deal in education these days, as Sunday's front-page article in The Oregonian made clear. Their creation was driven by governors and state schools chiefs from most states, supported by many major corporations and foundations.

of course he would say that....

this is what Texas Governor Rick Perry said...
In explaining why Texas would not be applying for Race to the Top funding, Governor Rick Perry stated, "we would be foolish and irresponsible to place our children’s future in the hands of unelected bureaucrats and special interest groups thousands of miles away in Washington."

Texas? Texas you say?

reidn.jpg

supported by most states doesn't mean Texico needs to be included rw boi. A majority of states approved the creation of the common core

Perry's afraid the new standards may cut into the Texas creationism and Noah's Ark class time.
