Paying off my car

:mm: Congratulations! :mm:
If I bought a new car at my age and kept it for 20 years I would be 77... I could be that old Uber driver... How long did it take you to pay it off?

Thanks! :)

Five years.
Wow... I'd be done just in time for Social Security to kick in... I should think about it. I usually pay about $5,000 a year in assorted car repairs anyway (with 2 cars to maintain) A new one would really cut down on my maintenance costs...
Does that include routine maintenance costs like tune ups, oil changes and tire rotations? If so you'd be paying for those on a new car too.

$5000/year is about the price of a new car, not maintaining two.

Almost done paying off my car! I think I have like 3 payments left and then it's paid for. I can't wait. Hopefully it doesn't fall apart for a while anyway. I don't want to have to get into paying a stupid car payment every month again any time soon. I want a break. Lol.

I probably could have just paid it off sooner in a lump sum if not for Christmas, but I'm still happy that I only have a few more months left!

Then, clothes shopping. :D
keep putting the car payment in the bank that way when it dies you'll be ahead of the game when you have to buy another car

Sure, after I buy myself some late Christmas presents. :D

I pay cash for my cars and do the maintenance myself, you should try it sometime...[/Q

Disagreed. Cars are not investments because they depreciate. A typical car payment is $400 for 5 years; $4,800 per year. I've never had to pay more than a quarter of that to maintain my vehicles except for an engine replacement. Maintaining a good used car is a lot cheaper than paying for a new one.

That's what I'm hoping! I had to get rid of my Infiniti because I had just gotten done paying to fix it (like $750) and then something else was wrong with it. It was a beautiful car but had over 100,000 miles and was kind of old. Also, like I mentioned earlier, parts for that car were outrageous. Lol. I think it was one of those situations where you can only order parts from the dealer because they never released parts to the market or something? I'm not sure, but whatever the reason, the parts were too much for me when something was wrong with it.
Car parts for imports are higher as is labor cost..

That is awesome. Good on you.

It has a HUGE trunk too. I could fit a body in there. Maybe two or three adult male bodies
You could kidnap me, but once Obamacare is dismantled I won't be able to pay for my viagra... Looks like I'll have to be content with being your gardener...

Sure, why not? I usually find someone that has one they don't know how to fix, buy cheap, fix myself...
Just asking, sounded like friend of mines routine. Next question was going to be how much I tools.....Every brand likes to have at least 1 or 2 areas where ya need a special tool for that car and after its junk ya can throw the tool away too
I have electronic tools I used from 25 years ago..I have a shed that is full of tools that I never throw away. But the new stuff is about 50-200 bucks, depends how fancy you want to go..The biggest problem with new cars like my parents have is the programming of their key-less operation..
Can't even see the engine in wife's car. I drive old and keep her in slightly used.......Never really had a car that required lots of repair.....

I normally don't either, as I check them out before buying..The ones my exes have had problems with are ones they wanted from car lots..

Worst investment next to life insurance...

Nope. Tune ups as needed, along with oil changes after the oil goes black for a few months. Tire rotation is usually thrown in for free whenever I get my breaks done. Each of my cars was over 20 years old (until I totaled the last one) stuff like breaks @ $500 a shot x4, water pumps, radiator, not to mention assorted suspension jobs, tires, fuel pumps, you name it...

Not if you have a job where you have to work with the public and look professional.

Shows they went for looks and not reliability. The Consumer's Report Used Car guide is an excellent tool along with the Kelly Blue Book and Edmund's websites.
