PETA Plans to Fly Drones That Would 'Stalk Hunters' - US News and World Report

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is actively shopping for a drone that would "stalk hunters," the organization said Monday.

The group says it will "soon have some impressive new weapons at its disposal to combat those who gun down deer and doves" and that it is "shopping for one or more drone aircraft with which to monitor those who are out in the woods with death on their minds."

The group says it will not weaponize the drones, but will use them to film potentially illegal hunting activity and turn it over to law enforcement.

"The talk is usually about drones being used as killing machines, but PETA drones will be used to save lives," PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk said in a statement.

They are currently considering purchasing the CineStar Octocopter, which is capable of carrying a DSLR camera for up to 5 minutes. With smaller cameras, the drone can fly for about 20 minutes. The group says it also hopes to fly drones over factory farms, fishing spots and "other venues where animals routinely suffer and die."

In order to legally operate the drone, it will likely need a certificate of authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration, a process which can take several months.

Kaitlynn Kelly, a representative for PETA, tells U.S. News that they will soon seek FAA approval but that they "hope this won't be an issue," and that they plan to have permission to fly beginning in the fall.

"We're not releasing the locations that we have in mind, but we will look into the Northeast, bighorn sheep hunts and bowhunts because those are especially cruel," she says.

The group may want to carefully monitor its drone—last year, an animal rights group drone was shot down while it was attempting to monitor pigeon hunters in South Carolina.

You can't fly a "drone" out of your line of sight or above 400 ft per the FAA....good luck w/ that.

In most states it's a crime to harass hunters.

I hope they paint them pinko.

Those are Conservative drones. Liberal drones can do whateverthefucktheywant. DOJ won't prosecute.

Islamic Dog Hatred & Animal Rights Activists’ Silence

In the UK a Muslim taxi driver recently refused to give a lift to a disabled woman’s dog, alleging that it broke the rules of Ramadan. Despite the fact that by law no taxi driver can refuse to carry a disabled passenger or assistance animal unless he is medically exempt, the man has not lost his taxi licence and has not been fired. The owner of the taxi firm said he would respect the driver’s religious beliefs.

This is not the first time and won’t be the last that Islamic and Western attitudes to dogs conflict.

There have been many cases, both in Europe and North America, of Muslim taxi and bus drivers refusing to let dogs in (even guide dogs for the blind); of police not letting dogs near Muslim suspects or prisoners; of Muslim prison inmates being given new clothes and bedding after police sniffer dogs search their cells; of dogs being banned from touching copies of the Quran and other Islamic items in prison cells; of sniffer dogs trained to spot terrorists at train stations no longer allowed to come into contact with Muslim passengers and fitted with leather bootees to cover their paws when searching mosques and Muslim homes; of blind or disabled people accompanied by dogs facing Muslim hostility in hospitals, supermarkets and from Muslim bus passengers or turned away from restaurants; of Western citizens being handcuffed and threatened with arrest for walking leashed and well-behaved dogs close to Muslim rallies — the list could go on.

...

That this is the case is obvious from the way groups for animal welfare are – and want to remain – blissfully ignorant of what Islam is, the threat that its growth poses to the West and in particular the danger that Islamization represents for animals.

There’s hardly any point in fighting for the advancement in the status of animals in law and public conscience when in a few decades our countries will regress to being dominated by a 7th-century cult replete with superstitions about black dogs and whose “religious” festivals are celebrated by slaughtering millions of fully-conscious animals in front of children who will quickly learn how to use a butcher’s knife.

Shocker: PETA Doesn’t Like the Idea of Cyborg Cockroaches

Everybody’s favorite protest group, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is at it again—this time in defense of cockroaches. Specifically, PETA wants to stop the sale of the Backyard Brains’ RoboRoach, a science education kit that enables kids to implant electrodes into a cockroach’s brain and then control the beetle with a smartphone app.

Backyard Brains argues that its product is not a toy, but an educational kit designed to teach people about biological systems. PETA says the kit is akin to practicing veterinary medicine without a license—a felony—and the organization has filed a complaint with Michigan’s attorney general and state regulators.

PETA isn’t the only one that thinks mind-controlled insects are a little ethically iffy, of course. Some scientists consider the project problematic because it democratizes animal experimentation, not to mention the possible lingering effects it might have on the wellbeing of the roaches. One bioethicist even likened RoboRoach to one of the three Unforgiveable Curses from Harry Potter. (Nerd alert.)

Washington, D.C. – Today the Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) released its yearly report on People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) shameful animal care record at its so-called pet shelter in its Norfolk, VA headquarters. New records show PETA killed a staggering 89.4 percent of the adoptable pets in its care during 2012. Despite years of public outrage over its euthanasia program, the notorious animal rights group has continued killing adoptable dogs and cats at an average of over 30 pets per week.

According to records from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 1,647 cats and dogs last year while placing just 19 in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 29,398 pets have died at the hands of PETA workers.

“For the 14th year in a row, PETA leaders have shown yet again they don’t care about the unlucky dogs and cats that come to its shelter for help,” said J. Justin Wilson, CCF Senior Research Analyst. “The animal rights group is talking out of both sides of its mouth – on one side preaching its animal liberation agenda, while on the other signing the death warrant of over 89 percent of pets in its care. It’s beyond hypocritical.”

Despite its $36 million budget, PETA employees make little effort to find homes for the thousands of animals they kill every year. PETA President Ingrid Newkirk previously indicated to The Virginian-Pilot that the animal rights group could stop killing pets, but it would mean cutting down on press stunts and celebrity photo shoots: “We could become a no-kill shelter immediately. It means we wouldn't do as much work."

“It seems PETA is more dedicated to publicity stunts than to keeping the animals in its own care alive,” Wilson continued. “It’s the height of hypocrisy for PETA to demonstrate for the ‘rights’ of rats and pigs, while killing tens of thousands of pets. It’s time that the Commonwealth of Virginia finally reclassifies PETA’s pet shelter for what it is – a slaughterhouse.”

At PETAKillsAnimals.com, CCF has made public PETA’s “Animal Record” filings with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for every year since 1998.

PETA Plans Nationwide Protests for ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ Opening

Variety

Dave McNary

PETA is promising more than two dozen protests in cities nationwide for Friday’s opening of “A Dog’s Purpose” as a follow-up to its call for a boycott of the canine drama.

The boycott was announced on Jan. 18 in conjunction with the release of a leaked video from the set showing a German Shepherd balking at performing a stunt in churning water. The movie’s director Lasse Hallstrom, co-screenwriter W. Bruce Cameron, producer Gavin Polone, and animal trainers from Birds & Animals Unlimited have said TMZ, which first released the video, and PETA mischaracterized what actually took place — insisting that the dog was reluctant to go into the water only because he had not rehearsed at that specific location.

Robin Ganzert of American Humane, which monitored the animals on the set, blasted PETA on the same grounds and attacked the group for its opposition to the use of any live animals in movies and TV. PETA remains undeterred, saying that the German Shepherd was “terrified.”

Universal is opening the feel-good film, starring Dennis Quaid and an array of dogs, in about 3,050 locations in North America with forecasts in the $18 million to $22 million range for the weekend. It’s competing with the second frame of Universal’s James McAvoy horror film “Split” for first place.
