Petition to require drug tests for ALL individuals receiving government aid

I'm fine with anyone on the dole having to piss in a cup. Dignity is for people that aren't getting a hand out.

Does that go for everyone "on the dole" like farmers, corporations and SS recipients? How about everyone who gets a gubmint grant, gubmint backed student loan and every veteran taking advantage of vet benefits?

Reread the original post. This petition include Welfare/TANF, Food Stamps/EBT/SNAP and Medicaid only. If people on these assistance programs are using their benefits wisely and aren't doing drugs, what is there to worry about?

I'm required to take random drug tests at work. TANF = free money. Yes, a drug test seems to be in order.

And community service in exchange for free money, free food and Medicaid is not much to ask.

I'm actually as liberal as it gets on 99% of issues - not this one. My heart does not bleed for anyone living off of the public larder. We're expected to pay someone else's way, not hold them accountable for how they are using their benefits an expect nothing in return? NO. This entire system needs an overhaul.

and yet your thread title is.....

Petition to require drug tests for ALL individuals receiving government aid

Let me guess...conservative nutter trying to get government out of people's lives?

failed. government is already in their lives, if they are on a taxpayer's handout.

want government out of their lives? get them off taxpayer's support.

EASY.

so how do the rest of us get them out of our lives?.....:dunno:

Well, we could start by drug-testing you.

Then just fill out a few simple forms and show up for an interview.

In February of 2013, the Indiana House passed Bill 1483, a very half-hearted measure to "drug test selected individuals receiving Welfare benefits". The Bill takes half of the individuals receiving Welfare/TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and makes these individuals take a written test regarding illegal drug use. If an individual is actually honest regarding drug use or somehow manages to accidentally elude to the fact that they abuse drugs, only then will a drug test be administered.

Under this policy, individuals that fail drug tests will continue to receive the exact same benefits "as long as the individual is seeking rehabilitation" (see also: attending one AA meeting per week actually counts). The Bill does not offer any explanation as to punishment for individuals not seeking treatment or those who continue to fail drug screenings.

Bill 1483 only applies to those receiving Welfare/TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) benefits and does not require individuals receiving Food Stamps/EBT/SNAP and/or Medicaid to undergo drug tests.

Billions of tax dollars every year support government aid programs. Individuals receiving those benefits should be giving back to their local community through community service work. No one can label these benefits as "a free ride" if individuals receiving these types of assistance are in fact doing what they can in order to contribute to their local communities as well.

Please do not remove this post. You may not realize that this cause is important to you if you're not an Indiana resident. The more individual states ramp up qualifications and change policies, the more likely other states are to follow suit.

Michigan is finally getting the idea....they working on putting through a bill that would require people on assistance to volunteer time to help pay for what they're getting.....

"People benefiting from public assistance should do something to give back to the community that is providing them with a helping hand, and that is exactly what my bill does," said Hune. "There is nothing wrong with having folks have a little skin in the game. I am glad that this common sense reform passed out of the Senate."

They already screen and test those who are suspicious, have record, etc. RWers are MORON hater dupes of the greedy rich...It's already proven this doesn't work and is a waste of money....

Frankie you are getting to sound like that obnoxious annoying commercial that comes on 10 times in the hour.....

Involuntary servitude is against the law, I think. I would like to see police officers clean up a little when they aren't doing anything, though.

How about for lobbyists or corporate officers who get tax breaks or other congressional give aways in the tax code. How about people who get gov't contracts like the corporate officers of Halliburton?

Make them piss is a cup, too. Hell, make everybody piss in a cup. It's the American way.

I got dibs on the cup concession because God only knows some lobbyist for a drug testing company must be pushing this idea which will unlikely cost a hell of a lot more money than they'll save by cutting certain recipients from receiving tax dollars.

Let's see, since false positives are always a possibility, they'll be retesting. Then they'll be bribing, and law suits, and court appearances.

It'll be fun!

No. Those people at least produce something beside babies. Welfare recipients are the low hanging fruit. Get them first, then the rest.

does that include the poor basterd who has to steer his Wheel Chair with his tongue?....:eusa_eh:

Yes, especially him. We could employ specialists to hold the cup for him.

so in other words....create yet another job......does he have to piss in a cup too?....

Absolutely. We could get half the population to surveill the other half for terrorist activity, then have them switch roles every 24 hours. Everyone would have TWO jobs, then.

I shouldn't be hard to get trial lawyers and government employee unions on board with this.

No, you'd have to stay under surveillance for a mandatory period. The public needs to be safe.

This shit does not do what you fuckers hope. It has been done.....and studied. It turns out that the percentage of welfare recipients who abuse drugs is no greater than the percentage of people who are not on welfare....but do drugs.

Would the OP like to answer the use question in my sig?

Thanks.

Technical difficulties... sorry if this posts more than once.

Sorry for upsetting the "humanitarians" that (as always) take these things much too far and morph it into some kind of pro-Nazi effort.

Government workers pissing in a cup? Absolutely. I'm a government employee and you better believe that we ALL get randomly tested, regardless of suspicious behavior, constant absenteeism, sudden decline in performance, etc.

When I said "ALL individuals on government aid", I meant that Indiana's half-assed law regarding random drug tests includes only those on Welfare/TANF. I worded it wrong and didn't include everything the petition calls for. Thanks to whoever pointed that out.

And thanks to the fella that mentioned Michigan's current bill for volunteer/community service work.

In the meantime, feel free to learn more about Indiana's Bill 1483 or sign the petition, regardless of your home state:
