Pink slips to 1,000 casino workers at Atlantic City's Trump Plaza

Oh well.

Not all the economic news is good.

Conservative hero and one time GOP Presidential Candidate Donald Trump is failing, again, at business.

Layoff notices went out on Monday for roughly 1,000 employees of Atlantic City's Trump Plaza Casino Hotel, in anticipation of a Sept. 16 closure, the company said in a statement.

The pink slips came as the company that owns the casino, Trump Entertainment Resorts, has begun "reviewing alternatives for the property," the company statement said.

"Although this review has not been completed and no final decision has been made, the company expects that it will terminate the operations of Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino on or shortly after September 16, 2014," the statement said.

What's more depressing is that he passes himself off as a business genius, and people even make shows about it.

New Jersey promotes the Jersey shore.
They better do something about AC or the boardwalk will be a ghost town.

Or it might just succumb to reality.

Used to be if you wanted to gamble, you could go to Atlantic City or Las Vegas.

Now nearly every state has Casinos or casino boats or some such shit.

Why travel to a shithole like New Jersey to lose a rigged game when you can stay home and do it?

Seems that it it might be New Jersey's heavy government regulations that might be the problem here.

That has nothing to do with anything. When Pennsylvania legalized gambling and all of their casinos were opened Atlantic City's gambling revenue plummeted around 70% the first year. This was all foreseen a while ago. AC had a monopoly on casino gambling out east for several decades. That's all gone now.

More accessible forms of gambling in NYC hurt it as well.

The odds always favor the house.

Which is why I never gamble.
You never gamble because it is very likely that particular form of entertainment will likely cost you money?

One could take that attitude about going to the movies or bowling.

If you are going in knowing you are probably going to lose money, and you manage your risk accordingly, that's fine.

But there are people who have serious gambling addictions, and they are the ones keeping Casinos afloat.

Well because he is. Check out the Hyatt hotel deal or 100 Wall street.

Sure Stephen Ross is now far and away the biggest developer but Trump still matters

I seriously doubt this.

Casinos make most of their money from slots, which in turn make most of their money from casual low-skill gamblers. Casino profits are about volume of warm bodies + rounds of play, not the occasional addicted player.

You sound so happy that 1000 people will now be out of work. How disgusting.

How many people has Donald Trump employed in his lifetime? How many you YOU employed? Yea, thought so.

Probably a shock to most low information dopes that Rule No. 1 is never use your own money. There's scads of places to raise investment capital.

Other than that the gambling take in A City is off 47% compared to a few years ago, down from $5.2B to $2.8B. Fewer gamblers' dollars, fewer places needed to service them, simple supply and demand, dopes. Other places have closed, it appears Trump is next, and doubtless it wont be the last to go.

But, hey, it's good chortle material for the low info envy crowd because Trump's a rich guy who leans right. LOL...a double whammy for them!

More astute observers however note that Trump appears to have mostly pulled out of the operation a while ago. Smart guys do such things if the handwriting on the wall doesn't look favorable. Afterall, the $2.4B dropoff in gaming revenue didn't happen over night.

He "matters" because the media says he matters. Even then? He's basically a joke.

Otherwise? He's no different than Elmer Gantry.

And in reality?

He should be run out of New York on a rail after being tarred and feathered.

You're a moron. Trump sold his casinos years ago. He has nothing to do with them.....:cuckoo:

I'm sure Libs will be cheering the fact that a fat cat like Trump crashed and burned in AC.
They will overlook the fact that he has been out of that business for years.
And what of the people that lost their jobs.
What of the fact that the loss of those jobs will create a negative ripple effect for that area....

The Libs will revel in the fact that a fat cat big business guy failed.

This is one of the reasons why the country is in such bad shape roght now.

The only thing Trump's been good at is flipping properties.

Even then?

It's not with his money.

Tissue?

Eyah.

He collects money from them for using his name.

And "I'm" the moron?

If he had "nothing" to do with them, he would really have nothing coming from them.

And they would not be using the name. It's a pretty simple concept there, Zand ol boy.

Nothing means nothing.

Why?

Just pointing out the crap you folks seem to admire.

Essentially a con man making money.

Funny how some of his biggest supporters here on USMB were pretty anti-trump back then. Or at least recognized that he was a con man and a joke. That was before they drank the kool-aid and joined #Cult45.

Also like to note that Sallow was 100% correct in this thread. I miss his posts.

ATLANTIC CITY — The last time this city had more than 30,000 casino employees, properties such as Trump Plaza and Showboat were still going gambling concerns.

But the resort’s two new casinos have helped push the industry’s total employment back over that mark for the first time since 2014.

Atlantic City’s nine casino hotels employed 30,217 people in July, according to statistics released by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement. The figure includes full- and part-time employees.

Casino Control Commission Chairman James Plousis said July’s figures reflect a mix of rehires from closed properties, veterans and Atlantic City residents.

“I think everybody in the entire industry, as well as the whole region, can be very encouraged by those numbers,” Plousis said.
