I didn't see anything in the article that would have caused me to inform authorities. I believe it would be even a stretch to call it 20-20 hindsight, let alone PC.

You are starting off with a fact that the truck was rented. That became known only after the incident. I would presume he'd gotten a job at Home Depot and had rightful access to the truck. When my stepson was in college he had a job with Lowe's delivering and installing appliances. I can assure you that truck he drove at times was parked in front of his house, my house, and I'd guess a few other places where it did not belong while he was on the clock.

I already said a call to the police is confidential. How do people find out who called. The suspect has no right to know that if he has been charged. And if not charged the answer a concerned citizen should suffice. In fact a liberal should welcome the inconvenience if it saves a life in any other situation.
