Politico lies about Ben Carson

Very confrontational today, is Carson. A little overplayed with the deliberate lecturing of the media, but all this publicity may work in his favor.

CBS has video tonight of him stumbling whether he was "13 or 14" when he tried to stab his friend. Then he said, "...what else?" to the reporters and they filled in the gap of when he tried to hit his mother over the head with a hammer and he replied, "Oh yeah, that was about the same time".

Trying to keep your lies straight is a bitch. Trump is right, this is a first in political history, trying to gain cred by claiming acts of criminal violence. The GOP has fallen into an astounding low state. Only incredibly stupid people could follow this bunch of fucking idiots.

This is probably the strangest campaign season ever. Quitting is "showing leadership"; liberal billionaires who gave generously to the presumptive political opponent is leading the GOP; men who have no need to embellish their Horatio Alger story goes out of his way to claim he tried to commit murder....twice.

And it's a full year until we vote for President.

Not likely. Had his campaign not apologized/admitted the past inaccuracies and he let it simmer all weekend and didn't take questions to stir the pot of innuendo; you could have parlayed this. Now, the air is out of the balloon and he'll spend the next week trying to unwind the apology/explanation etc...

The loser in this is HRC. The longer the pretenders are on top, the better it is for her.

I dunno. full day of news for him for the first time that I could remember. He likes to say "Gotcha". If he can come out of this with eventual proof of some of his claims, this will look like the ridiculous witch hunt he says it is. That would be even more positive for him.

Remember, some people like this sissy media whining about fairness and all.

So he did met Westmoreland?

A West Point spokesperson told Politico that it is possible Carson spoke with the general, but records provided by the Army showed Westmoreland did not visit Detroit on the day Carson wrote about.A West Point spokesperson told Politico that it is possible Carson spoke with the general, but records provided by the Army showed Westmoreland did not visit Detroit on the day Carson wrote about.
Ben Carson Campaign Admits Claim Of West Point Acceptance Is False

LOL! Accept Carson never said in the book, that he was accepted to West Point.

Yeah, NO ONE has said that. So, you're right.

If he can come out of this with eventual proof of some of his claims.

ROFL! He doesn't need to prove a dam' thing. He has a life history of honorable behavior.

The coolest part of all this, is that it is yet ANOTHER demonstration of THE IDEOLOGICAL LEFT... advancing Deceit as a FRAUDULENT means to influence the Ignorant.

Yeah... it is a strange campaign.

The GOP has a racially diverse field of candidates, each one a superior human being to the Brown Clown, The Old School Marxist and The Effeminate Old Socialist.

No, Ben Carson Didn't Lie About West Point. It's Another Media Hit Job.

"Politico followed up on this story. They reported one additional piece of information that seems to conflict with Carson’s story: Carson never applied to West Point, and was never extended admission.

But Carson never said he applied. He said he was extended a full scholarship offer. What’s more, West Point doesn’t offer scholarships: all admission is free contingent on serving in the military afterwards. It thus seems probable that Westmoreland or another military figure tried to recruit Carson, telling him that he wouldn’t have to pay for his education – and that Carson read that as a “full scholarship,” and never applied.

In fact, that’s exactly what Carson’s campaign manager said to Politico in an email:

Dr. Carson was the top ROTC student in the City of Detroit. In that role he was invited to meet General Westmoreland. He believes it was at a banquet. He can’t remember with specificity their brief conversation but it centered around Dr. Carson’s performance as ROTC City Executive Officer. He was introduced to folks from West Point by his ROTC Supervisors. They told him they could help him get an appointment based on his grades and performance in ROTC. He considered it but in the end did not seek admission.

But here’s how Politico editorialized: “When presented with this evidence, Carson’s campaign conceded the story was false.”

What was the lie?

To be polite we could call them dishonest politically motivated exaggerations. The fiction that the politically motivated left wing calls op-eds is an insult to real journalists and a credit to novelists. The double standard doesn't come close to describing the bias of the left wing media More and more the insanely hate filled left wing media finds itself being ridiculed for it's political motivation and the idiots can't figure out that Americans are better informed than the mind numb robots during Cronkite's day who were spoon fed left wing propaganda like pablum. The Politico idiots actually thought Americans would not only accept but cheer the propaganda fiction they came up with but it seems they found out different.

Live, his latest press conference seemed more sedate. Compressing all of his hysteria on the matter into media clips will make it so he would suffer from no corroboration, but a win would certainly come from the bob getting ID'd.

Looking forward to getting the real story, once the partisan ideologues have grown tired of it.

I went to Reuters because I find them to be pretty unbiased.
After reading their article, I feel this is being driven way out of proportion. I rarely agree with Carson and he's said some things that made me roll my eyes and say "whoa, that's pretty off the wall". But in all fairness, it's really no big deal.
People should focus on the issues instead of having orgasms over things pretty damn petty.

A West Point spokesperson told Politico that it is possible Carson spoke with the general, but records provided by the Army showed Westmoreland did not visit Detroit on the day Carson wrote about.

As recently as Aug. 13, Carson wrote on Facebook during his weekly Facebook chat that he was "thrilled to get an offer from West Point" but said he only applied to Yale.

Bill, that is true. I was the highest student ROTC member in Detroit and was thrilled to get an offer from West Point. But I knew medicine is what I wanted to do. So I applied to only one school. (it was all the money I had). I applied to Yale and thank God they accepted me. I often wonder what might have happened had they said no.
More: Ben Carson Campaign Admits Claim Of West Point Acceptance Is False

Holy shit, Army records showed that General Westmoreland was not even in Detroit on the day Carson wrote about.

The only "scandal" here is that maybe he got some dates wrong.

I have another much better thread going on this topic already. So I've commented on the better thread.

Go there for grown-up commentary without the OP's idiocy:

Politico: Carson lied about admission to West Point. | Page 49 | US Message Board - Political Discussion Forum

The thing is this: What this underscores more than anything else beyond the details is that politics is a profession folks. Apparently, the Carson folks thought that they needed to comment on this. I think most high school kids would have had the political chops to come back and laugh in the face of any commentator:

"Look Wolf (Blitzer). I got it wrong in my book. The military academies do not offer scholarships. They do basically copy what a scholarship is though so me and my editor were happy with that. As fort the date, hell, it was 40 years ago. Can you remember the exact day someone said something to you when you were 18?". Instead, the Carson camp gave it oxygen, life, and now have made it worse.

Frankly, the grain-in-the-pyramid story is more damaging to Ben than this. They may have tried a Wag-the-Dog maneuver to drain oxygen away from that bit of idiocy. I doubt it.

carson said he was offered a full scholarship to west point. what actually happened is the head of his ROTC said "I think I can get you nominated".

he never got carson nominated. nor was carson ever appointed.

his story is a lie at worst, misleading at the absolute best.

it really shouldn't be defended.

Well, I'm not defending some of it. Other parts, yeah.

Look, if Tara Vanderveer (Stanford BB coach) sits down with an 17 y/o guard and says, "You got a free-ride to Stanford if you want it", that is an offer. Tara wants this guard, the offer will be made. If Gen Westmoreland made such an offer, that is defacto an offer . Now Stanford's formal offer would come from the college the student enrolls in; medicine, journalism, etc... West Point's "free ride" offer will come from the Commandant or whomever. But Tara and the General's overture are offers.

I'm defending Carson insofar as a confusion between "scholarship" and free ride. Or not knowing the precise dates when he met someone 40 years ago.

My question is why the campaign didn't just laugh it off--let the media cover it all weekend for some free media and then come out Monday with an explanation that most people would just shrug at.

i heard that argument. but it isn't what happened. ROTC leader says "i think i can get you recommended to west point".

he says 'thanks but no thanks'.

he never applied. he was never accepted.

and every person who gets into west point goes for free so the scholarship story was nonsense, too.

it was an outright lie.

Argue with West Point..you're clueless as usual :slap:

It's fairly predictable, though. That's the nasty state of our politics right now. We've become very petty.
.

Politico appears to have flatly lied in this hit piece. Wow. Just wow. Just when you think they can't get any more biased....WHAM! They do it again.
