Question for those pushing a "living wage"

YOU DON'T HAVE THE EFFING RIGHT TO FORCE TAX PAYERS TO DO A GD THING. Taxpayers don't need to do shit. You want to better yourself, then get up off your ass and do it. Stop making excuses. People are responsible for their own families. I don't want your effing marxist help, get you effing hands out of my back pocket you mooch.

Sure get a job at the largest company in the world maybe. Oh wait they pay so little that you'd still be on welfare.

Why the hell would I bust my ass working at the local Walmart? Maybe corporate HQ or one of their software/engineering shops, but no way in hell I'm gonna work as a stock guy, register clerk, or even manager at Walmart when I can make a six figure salary millions of different ways working right at home. I've never collected an ounce of welfare, and I suspect I never will. You'd have to burn down my ranch & home, steal my assets, break my hands and legs, cut my tongue out, poke my eyes out, and kill all of my relatives, before I'd even come close to not being able to figure out a way to stay off welfare.

If I read some of these posters correctly, that is exactly what they would vote to have our gov't do to you to force you to relinquish some or all of YOUR wealth to satisfy others who want it.

:wtf:

So Walmart gives workers with little education, experience or training a better offer than anyone else gives them, and that's Walmart "creating this need?" WTF? So Walmart caused them to suck at school and not work hard? Walmart caused them to not work hard or be reliable at other jobs and not gain experience? Walmart did all that? Wow, in your native language, "baa." Incredible. And you actually believe that don't you? Walmart gave them a chance, and they are paying them more than anyone else will pay them. In what possible fantasy land is that bad?

LOL, we know that's wrong. Walmart, who is already paying them more than anyone else will pay them, is the bad guy in this. Right. Oh, and you're saying that because of your belief in small governments...

Look at the unemployment rate. Not many other options out there.

Unemployment Rates for States

Half of the states have unemployment under 6%

5% is generally given as where we want to be. Only 16 states make that mark. That leaves 34 above it.

Right now your tax dollars are going to make the Waltons richer.

A living wage is preferable to the wage of the dead since the dead don't do work and thus don't earn anything.

I oppose the dead wage.

You should too.

The Job Loss Myth | Raise The Minimum Wage

Yes, this is a web-site without an agenda.

Collecting data that supports their opinion.

Here is something to consider.

We don't live in an "economy". We live in 50 states, most of which have some degree of uiqueness and even some of them have multiple economies.

You might see positive effects by raising the wage in one area and reduced effects by lowering it.

Even within businesses that have different models, you might find things different.

In one area I know of (not a garden place), people all make well above the minimum wage because labor is so tight. The minimum wage Obama is proposing would have no effect on them. The problem is that the cost of living is also up because of tight demand.

So, this all or nothing argument is meaningless.

I know I'd be pretty feeling pretty low if my wage was set by law and not by what my employer thought I was worth. And don't get me wrong. He does not pay anymore than he has to.

From someone I know:

I left a job I liked for a job I knew I'd like more. My first employer came to me with an offer for about 20% more. I was flattered, but I wasn't leaving because of money. Still, why would they not pay me that much if they thought I was worth it. Shame on me for working for less than market value.

Don't kid yourselves.
Hear! Hear! And witness that many RED STATES and their economies are doing very well...but to hear a Statist speak? WE/They stole it from those that aren't so hot and are in the rears to the tune of billions and MUST bail them out...or else. I've already read it on these pages...

Astounding.

No, they are not, but please explain whose wealth you would have our gov't confiscate to satisfy the min wagers.

And How many Politicians YOU support? And you have YET to prove the Waltons are getting rich off tax dollars unless you are talking about welfare folks that shop there.

By what standard?

Per capita income?
Education?
Healthcare?

If the dead can walk, then perhaps they can work.

So maybe you have a point.

Hey now, not every zombie gets to be on TV. Just the goodlooking ones...

And for the record, employing the living dead will only cost you an arm and a leg.

Look, I understand opposing the minimum wage, but this is just ridiculous. Do you understand how the minimum wage works? It is a price control such that no one can buy an hour of labor for less than some specified amount.

Because they cut pensions to people? Just happened in New Jersey. Wisconsin is another.

The subject was red states.

Which red states are you talking about? How are you defining "red state"?

There are several putatively "red" states and not all are doing so well.
Pro-Democrat group says 9 of the 10 poorest states are Republican | PolitiFact Rhode Island

Also, isn't "red" the flag color of socialism? Just wondering about why so many on the right are waving red flags. Did the communists win?

You make an interesting point

But as a follow up. If your employee doesn't earn enough to support himself, should the taxpayer make up the difference?

Should an employer have the taxpayers support his employees just so that he can profit off of substandard wages?

The term "substandard" is purely subjective and idiosyncratic. There is no such thing as a "standard wage" in economics. There is only the market wage. You are claiming that employers have some obligation to pay more than the market wage. So far, I haven't seen a smidgeon of justification for such a claim. Can you explain it?

Simple enough...

The employer either supports his employees or the taxpayer does

Any amount we taxpayers have to pay represents what is substandard
