Question

why is is possible to negotiate with Iran...and not attack them....while it is not possible to negotiate with Syria...and we attack them?
This fails as a false comparison fallacy, in addition to being ignorant and a ridiculous lie.

For example, the accord with Iran was not only with the United State, but included five other nations.
Up yours Clayton...we have 60 nations ( obabbles unprecedented coalition) attacking everyone in the feckin region...except Iran.

The neo-cons in the Bush administration were VERY close to Israel. We were in fact very close to getting into a war with Iran. Tensions were very high, and there were several border incidents, and incidents in the gulf that could have been excuses for the administration to escalate the situation into a full blown military conflict.

If I remember right, there were also a couple of incidents and times when Israel wanted to bomb Iran during the Bush administration.

But what it all came down to, was the tactical military experts told the politicians, on both the left and the right, that starting a war would be more costly in both treasure and blood than that little boondoggle in Vietnam.

It might even possibly cost an American city. If the ruling elite are prepared for that, than they should go ahead. If not, it might be wise to ease off and find a way to peacefully seek regime change like they did with the Soviet Union. But those are the option now. Remember, even the elite have mothers, fathers, and children. They have no desire to see an entire city of millions of people wiped off the map. . . . again. (They did it twice in 1945 already . . . remember?) Everyone will remember whose fault it is this time, and who unleashed the genie.

The elites in this nation wisely choose to go the detente course. Who knows if the situation will continue in stalemate. . . . But that was how it was back then. The cost has up till now, been too high. If world wide depression sets in and they need to set up a world currency and financial regime? All bets might be off.

It has always been more wise to take out Iran and Russia's allies one at a time till there isn't an alternative economic paradigm.
