"Rational" Republicans Threaten Third-Party if Cheney's Replaced.

For those who thought they would never care about who was the third most important House Republican, Liz Cheney's expected ouster from her leadership position has inspired 100 former Republican leaders drop a letter tomorrow (Thursday 5/13) saying if their party does not separate itself from the former president, they will form a third party:
The Whigs Collapsed Over Slavery. Could the GOP Over Trump?

‘Rationals’ vs. ‘radicals’: Anti-Trump Republicans threaten third party

"The letter, headlined: 'A Call For American Renewal,' is an exploratory move toward forming a breakaway party, two of its organizers said.

"The group is dismayed by what it says is a modern Republican Party driven by its allegiance to Trump, who continues to falsely claim the 2020 election was stolen from him..."

"A spokesman for Trump, Jason Miller, said: 'These losers left the Republican Party when they voted for Joe Biden.'

"Evan McMullin, a former chief policy director for the House Republican Conference and an independent presidential candidate in 2016, said if the Republican Party does not reject lies and extremism, part of it 'will have no choice but to part ways with it and build something new. We’re excited about that prospect.'"

Imho, if four years of Biden has the same effect on Democrats as Trump has had on Republicans, the US may finally get rid of its two-party political monopoly.
Looks like marginalized elitists are left out in the cold and the voting base put them there.

They should just join the Democrats.

:dunno:

We'll see what this new party stands for, but it's hard to see how it could be worse than Trump's Crazy Train.
I don't think its happening. The norquist wing is just consolidate more power with McConnell and the .1%. Dent and these guys were already on the way out before Trump. We're not going to see a goper who'd agree to any tax hike affecting the .1% even if it meant saving soc sec and the interstate system.

I really don't see anyone winning in 24 running as Trump's acolyte. McConnell probably hopes for Trump annointing someone who pimps for the .1%. DeStantis is a whore but Fla is not a deciding line anymore.

Perhaps proportional representation would evolve from breaking up our current two-party duopoly?
No Taxation Without (Proportional) Representation!

"The current system is unfair not only because it leaves many citizens on the sidelines in solidly Republican as well as solidly Democratic districts and states, but also because it undermines political accountability and turbocharges polarization."

This voting reform solves 2 of America’s biggest political problems

well they did in 20 and may do so again. That's my guess anyway. But in 28 nobody will give a shit about Trump, and he may well be dead anyway.

That may not be far off, but definitions of "conservative" are amorphous. Anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-Putin, anti-tax on the 1%, anti-gun regulation, anti-immigrant? (not offered as an exclusive list, or to be dismissive of any.

The GQP "civil war" lasted about 15 minutes, and Trump won. Now it's up to the lucid members of the party to rip the scab off for the good of the country.

If they form that party, I'll vote for it in support, at least while it's getting started.
I suppose the elephant-of-a-question in the room is whether Trump is in prison before November 2022?

Could Trump Go to Prison Once He's Out of Office?

And at his age possibly dead. His little brother just passed after all. Heck of a guy for a party to cling to.

The courts will not move that quickly? Maybe by 2025, but he will be dead by then, probably.

Neocon warmonger asswipes don't need a third party....They can go rejoin the democrats.

They should split off....but it's the trump cultists who should start their own Party of Trump.

I'd be very surprised to see that, but shit that comes up sure could damage the party.
