Red State Voucher Schools: The Right To Be Ignorant

If you don't want your kids taught bullshit, don't teach them from Mother Jones....

I agree. Teach them to ask questions and honestly look at primary sources instead of propaganda pieces.

About the Party :: TexasGOP - Republican Party of Texas

We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.

----------------------

Yea, don't let them question those "fixed" beliefs.

WOW!!....Dean where are you digging these things up?...... how come you never posted this stuff before?....:eusa_eh:

until you prove what is written in the Bible is absolute proof.....your kid maybe learning lies there too.....and it is kind of an indoctrination too.....

The beauty of the Bible is that the Holy Spirit can prove whatever truth we have questions about. And we learn, not just be reading, but by applying it in our lives.

Our Founders were highly educated people. They were taught the Bible. They used it in their lives. And I think our Nation is far better off because of it.

Of course, there are other good books we should learn from too. It's just foolish to ignore the wisdom of thousands of years of human history and divine revelation.

Those who can......teach

Those who can't teach pass laws and try to dictate to those who are.

That's the thing about you Quantum.

I guess that explains Democrat policy. Pass laws an try to dictate what to teach. Because you cant teach.

Teaching involves students actually learning. Our current public school system clearly lacks alot of teachers. At least according to your standards. because students arent learning.

If a school system is lacking in teachers it's usually because the pay is low, the working conditions suck, morons who don't know what it's like to teach try to dictate policy and they have to put up with asshole parents who say their kids never do anything wrong.

thats the way it is even in the ritsy schools....

give the tax dollars back and get government out of education

Where, anywhere in the world, does that work? Do the countries beating the crap out of us do that?
Nowhere. The countries that have little or no government support for education have the worst educational systems in the world, Somalia, Haiti, Eritrea, and Ethiopia.

Take a look at the countries with best educational systems in the world, Finland, South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore. All these countries have strong governmental support for public education and a ministry of education which oversees both public and private schools.

Just suggesting the elimination of government support for educational is ridiculous.

Apple never owned the lion's share of the market.

Last time I looked, you claimed that the GOP liked rich corporations, why would they hate Apple?

He is creating a straw man. He is trying to claim we would hate them because they were charitable donating computers to schools. We would have no problem with that. Even though I am not sure whether the donations were purely altruistic. (Thankfully, that's not my place to decide).

See, he is trying to set up the argument that since we oppose politicians taking other peoples money and giving that money to their special interests (Which probably includes him in some way), we are opposed to individuals or groups voluntarily giving of themselves.

He is trying to confuse and thus decieve people about what we actually believe.

thats my Dean......he dont walk down the street.....he Spins!.....

There is a difference between indoctrination (which you are advocating) and encouraging people to question and learn for themselves.

See, when you teach people to ask questions and learn for themselves, you arent undermining parental authority. You are helping their parents teach their children how to think and learn. When you ask people to learn and question for themselves. You aren't challenging the student's fixed beliefs. You are encouraging them to learn for themselves. Often learning new things can reinforce the previously mentioned fixed beliefs.

You see, you are starting from a proposition that those fixed beliefs are incorrect and need to be changed. That may not be the case. They may be correct already. By honestly, asking questions and teaching people to think, people learn how to look at their beliefs and honestly evaluate whether they are correct or not. This is far different then your desire to indoctrinate and replace those beliefs regardless of whether they are correct or not.

We want to encourage people to seek the truth and learn. We arent trying to strip them from the truth they already have, just trying to teach them to find more.

But that quest is their own. This is why we arent afraid of competing viewpoints. We will look at all viewpoints without fear because we are firm in our own beliefs that as we study and think we will gradually come closer to more correct principles.

Why does it seem that the GOP has embarked on a program to destroy education as we know it? Did the destroy-program begin with their attack on teacher-unions or has it been around for some years now? The bottom line might be, why is the GOP afraid of education, or maybe just the education that goes beyond factory work and gets into the aspects of life that they believe is not for the common folk?
They don't know how to fix the problems in public education, so they favor doing away with it; like everything else in government they don't know how fix.

FREEDOM is how you fix the gov't!

From Mother Jones. What are the odds that any of this is true?

Unlike Breitbart, Mother Jones actually practices a little thing called journalism. (And they provide links)

You're serious?

Irony...underestimated 'virtue'....

It's painfully obvious what the motive is in degrading standards of education

"It is only when the people become ignorant and corrupt, when they degenerate into a populace, that they are incapable of exercising the sovereignty. Usurpation is then an easy attainment... Let us by all wise and constitutional measures promote intelligence among the people as the best means of preserving our liberties."
-- James Monroe; from 'First Inaugural Address'

Bad apples: New report shows dozens of city schools are plagued with 'unsatisfactory' teachers

A scathing new report from the education reform group StudentsFirstNY shows that kids in poorer neighborhoods who need more help in school are more likely to end up with the underperforming teachers.

Dozens of city schools are crammed full of bad teachers, with some kids seeing incompetent hacks in as many as a third of their classrooms.

A scathing new report from the education reform group StudentsFirstNY shows that kids in poor neighborhoods who need the most help in school are far more likely to end up with the learning lemons.

“It’s a double hit,” said Micah Lasher, StudentsFirstNY’s director. “These kids start out with challenges, and then we give them a sub-par education. We’re making the challenges worse.”

The countries that have no public support for education have bad public education? Who'd a thunk?

Do you have any idea how stupid what you just said is?

Sholdn't the title of that article be "14 Wacky Claims About what Schools Teach if we don't let Unions Have Complete Control?" Are you aware that some of the best high schools in the country at preparing students for college are private religious schools?

well now that I gotta agree with.

Politicians pass laws and determine policy that make classroom teaching difficult or impossible.

imagine being a teacher and being required by the state to demonstrate that a wheelchair bound, tube fed quadriplegic student can edit a paragraph for proper grammar or understand the purpose for an author to write a piece and give several example.

Or solve a 2 step linear equation with an IQ of 35 ?

think I'm kidding?

Don't send your kids to one. Problem solved.

Hey I got a better idea. You want to send your kids to a school that teaches the bull shit that the fundy schools want to teach, do not ask for vouchers to send your kids to be made ignorant.

I am tired of wasting my tax money on this kind of supposed "education."

Pay for it yourself. Not with vouchers. Problem solved.
