The big difference being that Mueller got his conviction of Manafort. While Sussmann was acquitted. Durham literally lost every trial he prosecuted as part of his special investigation.

Both Durham and Mueller had the same authority as a United States Attorney to convene grand juries and prosecute any crimes they found as part of their investigations.
