Ayup.. democrats are, again, pushing for banks to hand out loans to people with no assets or income.

No one in government ever told the banks to relax standard banking practices when vetting loan applicants' credit worthiness.

BTW, the majority of defaults, were from private lenders.

Tut, tut, where to start? Barney Frank is from Massachussetts and he was not " in charge of our banking system". The Republican Contract on America was the cause of the deregulations that enabled Wall St to create banks that were not regulated as far as mortgages were concerned. They were not forced to "make quotas based on race" because they were outside of the mortgage regulations. They simply loaned to anyone with a pulse and ignored the requirement to verify income because they knew that they would be selling off their subprime junk to Freddie and Fannie and duping investors with derivatives.

So it is disingenuous to blame the government when this entire scheme was concocted by Wall st and enabled by Gingrich when he gave them carte blanche to "write their own rules". The entire "deregulated free markets" dogma came crashing down when the mortgage bubble imploded. But don't let the facts get in the way of what you believe.

I left it out because it's not 17%. 32% is low, but unlike the GOP's 17% approval rating, it's not a record low.
