Russia is examining a plan to round up stray dogs and use them to clear landmines in Ukraine.

Many towns and cities have problems with rejected pets and street dogs that hunt in packs.

The Russian parliament gave a first reading to legislation allowing 'euthanasia' of homeless dogs.

But senior pro-Putin MP Fedot Tumusov, 67, demanded 'large and aggressive' strays should be trained by specialists for war work.

Such a role clearing mines would put their lives in acute danger.

'We have a lot of dog experts in our country who can teach [strays] all sorts of different skills,' said the politician.

He asked the government if 'dog experts could train large and aggressive dogs and send them to the SMO [war] zone'.

SMO refers to the 'special military operation' that Russia uses for the invasion of Ukraine, where it strives for the 'demilitarisation and denazification' the country.

The Just Russia party MP said: 'Let them help pull out the wounded, and participate in mine clearance.'

Dogs were deployed by the Red Army in the Second World War, he said, and strays should be mobilized.

Fine, as long as it's after they run out of pedos first. ;)

Large grown stray dogs are not the easiest to train. I guess the assholes could just throw balls of hamburger or other meat ahead into the minefield, tracking the path the dog takes to the meat, until it blows and would only require Russia privates to throw the meat 25 Meters, as that would be the kill range when the dog blows up. When I was enlisted, they told me the Russian allowed 10% casualties for training in some types of training. They could film this live and make money gambling on the outcome and entertainment for the folks back home.:smoke:

Dogs aren't heavy enough to set off a land mine. But they can be trained to sniff them out.

Instead of valuable dogs, we have millions of invaders already trained on invasion techniques. We have millions more on the way. It's a win win.

The dog-bombs used by the Soviets in WW2 didn't work so well. While they were trained to run under German tanks, they'd often run back to the Soviet lines. And the Germans quickly learned to instantly shoot any dog they saw.
