Santorum Accuses Obama Of 'Snobbery' For Wanting All U.S. Kids To Attend College

Well, then its probably not a good idea for slamming the President for suggesting such.

There sure is a lot of butthurt in this thread BTW...
No one suggested all young people should not aspire to go to college.
You made that up. You made it up because you have nothing else to add.

The EEOC is now discouraging people from going to high school.

Employers are facing more uncertainty in the wake of a letter from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission warning them that requiring a high school diploma from a job applicant might violate the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The development also has some wondering whether the agency’s advice will result in an educational backlash by creating less of an incentive for some high school students to graduate.

The “informal discussion letter” from the EEOC said an employer’s requirement of a high school diploma, long a standard criterion for screening potential employees, must be “job-related for the position in question and consistent with business necessity.” The letter was posted on the commission’s website on Dec. 2.

Employers could run afoul of the ADA if their requirement of a high school diploma “‘screens out’ an individual who is unable to graduate because of a learning disability that meets the ADA’s definition of ‘disability,’” the EEOC explained....

That's retarded.

No, you see, guy, I'd like to PREVENT that sort of thing from happening.

But the thing is, like the Romanovs, your sort is kind of clueless to the level of suffering.

Until the angry mob shows up at the door.

And then it's really too late to save you from yourselves.

30 years ago, a Democrat as far to the left as Obama NEVER could have gotten elected.

4 years ago, he won by 10 million votes and got more votes than any candidate in US History.

But you'll nominate another clueless character who can't tell you how many mansions he owns, and wonder why people will do it again.

We need a centrist fiscal conservative right now, not a hyper religious right wing radical. (Which is pretty much the knee jerk the GOP is getting right now.

Who would you define as that?

Frankly, as an atheist, I'm more scared of Romney and Huntsman's religion, given it's history and secretive nature, than I am about a "right wing hyper-religious" guy, because the GOP has been nominating them for years.

I don't see either party really having the answers to the real root problems.

The root problem is trade and manufacturing. We are sending too much money to other countries and we are losing out manufacturing base, and neither party seems to see those as even being bad things, much less articulating plans to reverse the trend.

Until we address that, we are marching on the road to perdition.

I am still researching candidates to find the lesser evil of the bunch. It's sad that I can't vote for someone and maintain a clear conscience though.

When you find a politicin with a clear conscience, and NO skeletons to speak of? Be sure to let us know?

Sucks to be human. Nice Politicians think they're above even that.

Yea, I know, I'm just bitching to the Choir. But these recent candidates seem to keep dead bodies in their closet, not skeletons.

I'm the least thrilled I've been in doing this for 30 years.

I won't vote for Romney under any circumstances. Everything about the guy is just wrong to me.

I'm warming up to Huntsman a little bit. Yeah, I know he's a Mormon and I'm not thrilled with the LDS Cult, but he seems a little less offensive to me than Romney does.

I think Newt's a good guy, but maybe too big of an ego.

Perry isn't a bad guy, but he ran such an awful campaign it wasn't funny.

I like Santorum, but he's underpowered. I think he is the kind of guy who connects to the working class, what we used to call "Reagan Democrats" when I was younger and had more hair. BUt I think the "Mr. Potter" republicans will torpedo him like they torpedoed Huckabee four years ago.

Ron Paul actualy says some things I like on foreign policy, like not putting our interests behind Israel's. But he's completely unrealistic on economic matters.

And then there's Obama. A guy who is completely out of his depth, but will probably win a second term because everyone else is so awful.

I wonder if Santorum realizes the best auto-mechanics went to school for that.
Hey, don't be stupid! Trade Schools are not the same as Colleges. Santorum is correct on this. There is no need for ALL to go through college. There is no need for those that did go through college to feel superior to those that chose not to.

I have some well-rounded, "uneducated" friends that are worth more to society than some narrow-minded, "highly educated" friends.

It's the idea of superiority that Obama is trying to sell. He wants to give away college educations in exchange for liberal votes throughout the rest of the leech's life.

Some people just aren't suited for college and many important jobs in society do not require college degrees.

Obama is a Marxist!...remember that!

The one thing I do take interest in in the LDS is that they believe the Constitution was handed down by God like the 10 commandments.

I think that may make them less likely to violate it. But then again the "10 commandments" are violated endlessly by believers at a rate that can only be defined as "per second" that I don't really have faith in my own claim.

Santorum, like Huckabee, is a dominionist, I can't bring myself to vote for that. I'm taking an interest in Huntsman though.

I have not read all the post on this thread...but will throw my 2 cents in...what would a college education be worth if all went to college...I know several successful people who did not even finish HS. And who would do the jobs that don't require a college education...would that mean more jobs and reasons to keep our boarders open...what would it do to our economy??? Even now I see college grads working at Mc Donald's...I would rather see us as a society put more money towards training like vo-tech and apprentice programs for kids in HS, I have seen so many get grants to go to college just for the money...I would like to see kids have the opportunity to go to college...the grant system is not working...maybe something like the GI bill..but not just for military service because all cannot go into the military but maybe some kind of community service. I wanted to add..making a college education easy to get would move us more towards socialism.

It would be worthwhile only in the sense that our population would be educated.

It would decimate the current job market though. It's a double edged sword.

How the hell is anyone supposed to even try explain the benefits of a college education to someone who's so prediposed to discount it?

Well, looks like someone here can do a decent job of explaining it, at least better than me:

President Obama made two statements about college. The first was that he wanted all kids to graduate high school and be college-ready. The second was that he wanted the U.S. to have the highest proportion of college graduates by 2020.

It's bad enough that Santorum, pretending to be a religious, moral candidate lied. But what is far worse is that he is using that lie to try and betray our great country. He's sending the soundbite out there, expecting his followers to lower their standards and hope for less than. Why should anyone be proud of not achieving the highest possible standards of education? Why would anyone want their children to be less educated than children from other countries?

It's appalling that some on this board have no desire to better themselves nor their children.

I went to a 1 year trade school and studied auto mechanics. Prior to that I went to college. Both gave me real-world advantages.

Of course, this also true:

It would be worthwhile only in the sense that our population would be educated.

It would decimate the current job market though. It's a double edged sword.

I'd say, however, that having an educated population is a worthwhile goal, even if it isn't something in which the benfits can be easily quantified.

ROFL! So you're admitting that you support thugs who use violence against innocent people?

He said earlier that he had no problem with unemployed people beating the crap out of capitalists.

Outstanding.

That would be pretty awesome, actually.

And let them try to talk their way out of that one.

Oh really?
Look, genius..anyone who does what they do for profit is a capitalist.
Meaning, anyone who offers up the fruits of their labor for compensation is a capitalist.
Anyone who creates and/or sells their wares for profit is a capitalist.
Are you suggesting that the above be subject to baseball bat beatings by what are essentially the parasites of society?
Yes there are plenty of unemployed people actively looking for work ( again their desire is be a capitalist) who are consciously attempting to get back in the game.
When I use "parasite" I am referring to those who instead of trying to find work have decided it's just easier to remain unemployed, thus allowing for a 99 week taxpayer funded vacation.

Just lazy bastards right?

I'd have no problem if welfare/unemployment was linked directly to work.

My point is that the current disaster was brought about because people who just speculate and gamble and manipulate miscalculated badly, and a lot of the rest of us paid the price while they got big bailouts - that the rest of us are paying for.

Does this seem right to you?

Not one person has been brought to trial for what happened in 2008. That's a travesty.

I said THAT?..Where?
Umm, if a search for work in one's area of expertise comes up empty, they should look elsewhere for work. Sitting on the couch is not the way to go.
Actually that is not true.
The people in construction that tied their entire existence to new home construction are finding themselves out of luck. Meanwhile good guys, craftsmen who are reliable, do excellent work and are employable for instance by the insurance industry, are busier than one armed wall paper hangers.
In my line of work, restoration from insurance losses, our subs are kicking ass.

All the while corporations and the wealthy reaping record profits.

The system is clearly broken.

Wouldn't you make a nice, faceless member of the Red Guard? A situation perfectly suited to shallow, unthinking cowards like you.

Hey, man, revenge is human nature. ...

And you even admit to it. Must be frustrating to know you were born in the wrong time and place for your true nature. You'd be right at home marching down the street, pumping your little red book in the air and screaming slogans until dry spit flies out your unwashed mouth. You are a hateful, horrible, stupid waste of human life.
