This is spot on and Maher is no Republican and he agrees. Why are teachers teaching kids that America is racist? Terrible and awful.

My kids are seeing this too. Which is very unfortunate.

Which classes/subjects is this being taught and how much of a focus is it in their curriculum/studies?

Social Studies, Music and English. I would say a rough estimate is 30%.

Those are pretty young and impressionable ages. Sorry if I’m asking you to repeat yourself but I am curious what exactly they are being told

#1) Being white makes you privileged. They had to do an ancestry project and illustrate when exactly they took advantage of the system to garner the aforementioned privilege.

#2) They had to do a paper on the Israeli/Pali conflict and explain why Israel is an apartheid state (7th grade) not 5th.

#3) They had to Google the 1619 project and explain why 1619 and not 1776 is what we should be concentrating on and the date.

#4) They had to write about stereotypes in Music and why the black culture aka Rap and HipHop is associated with negativity many a time.

#5) They had to compare segregation of bathrooms by gender to segregation of bathrooms by color in the old South.

#6) My 7th grader is being forced to read that Robin DiAngelo propaganda.



I can go on but they are home half the time now due to COVID so we see all this and it is annoying.

Thats quite the curriculum for middle schoolers. Came a long way from when I was there. It’s seems like they are being given the opportunity to research explore and analyze in their own, right? From what I’ve heard from you on this board I’m sure you are challenging the premise of many of those assignments. What kind of things are your kids finding? Are you learning anything useful? Also, I don’t see why you are objecting to them reading anything. School should be exposing students to diversity of thought. They can agree or disagree but exposure is never a bad thing in my opinion

True, I engage in debate at times to stretch out issues and challenge people so hopefully a wider perspective and deeper understanding can be reached. Not just for them but for me too, that’s how my brain works. I understand this can be annoying at times and I understand you are talking about your kids which can be a sensitive issue so if it’s too much I’m happy to disengage.

How does your wife feel about the situation?

At first she was agnostic and now she is very angry and has taken an ugly turn to the right wing way of thinking. She grew up with a single mother who held three jobs and two siblings as her dad died when she was two. She doesn’t feel privileged. It has taken a harsh toll on her.

I’m sorry to hear that. I’m glad she was able to build a nice life and family from such a tough upbringing. I bet she is a pretty strong lady

And hates when people tell her she is privileged for being white. Correct.

the term white privilege refers to other things beside personal strife and struggles. I don’t like the term as it is narrow misleading and can be taken as offensive. But there is a different way of interpreting it if you and your wife are open to it. Or you can decide to continue to be angry and defensive about it. Your call

That’s fair. I’m curious. What did your kid say for the assignment where she had to find an example in family history that displayed privilege?

She used examples of my ancestors escaping the Holocaust although only 5% or so did and they ending up here. She said she was proud that her great grandparents fought the Nazis and as such she is alive today. Not exactly what the teacher wanted to hear but they are pass fail in 5th grade so she passed.

Good for her. Glad she passed. Doesn’t sound like too much harm was done with that one and she got to learn more and brag about her grandpa.

That isn’t the point. I believe again that teachers should teach kids how to think not what to think. Not all parents are like me.

It doesn’t seem like this assignment was telling your kid what to think. It gave her a chance to look through her history and work with her parents where you had the choice to engage in a racial way or a historical way. You all went with the historical way and your kid passed.

They didn’t think she would go down that path. It was designed to illicit a different response.

Yet she passed

Everyone passed. The point is I had to guide her down that path not her teacher.

I imagine every 5th graders parent guides them down the path they think best for that assignment

If a parent were to express concern with a given assignment to me, I would most certainly take that very seriously and be sure to address it in class as well as with the student in private. The parents are the boss, not me.

My wife has not I. Would not go well if I did.

At first she was agnostic and now she is very angry and has taken an ugly turn to the right wing way of thinking. She grew up with a single mother who held three jobs and two siblings as her dad died when she was two. She doesn’t feel privileged. It has taken a harsh toll on her.

I’m sorry to hear that. I’m glad she was able to build a nice life and family from such a tough upbringing. I bet she is a pretty strong lady

the term white privilege refers to other things beside personal strife and struggles. I don’t like the term as it is narrow misleading and can be taken as offensive. But there is a different way of interpreting it if you and your wife are open to it. Or you can decide to continue to be angry and defensive about it. Your call

#1) Being white makes you privileged. They had to do an ancestry project and illustrate when exactly they took advantage of the system to garner the aforementioned privilege.

#2) They had to do a paper on the Israeli/Pali conflict and explain why Israel is an apartheid state (7th grade) not 5th.

#3) They had to Google the 1619 project and explain why 1619 and not 1776 is what we should be concentrating on and the date.

#4) They had to write about stereotypes in Music and why the black culture aka Rap and HipHop is associated with negativity many a time.

#5) They had to compare segregation of bathrooms by gender to segregation of bathrooms by color in the old South.

#6) My 7th grader is being forced to read that Robin DiAngelo propaganda.



I can go on but they are home half the time now due to COVID so we see all this and it is annoying.

Thats quite the curriculum for middle schoolers. Came a long way from when I was there. It’s seems like they are being given the opportunity to research explore and analyze in their own, right? From what I’ve heard from you on this board I’m sure you are challenging the premise of many of those assignments. What kind of things are your kids finding? Are you learning anything useful? Also, I don’t see why you are objecting to them reading anything. School should be exposing students to diversity of thought. She used examples of my ancestors escaping the Holocaust although only 5% or so did and they ending up here. She said she was proud that her great grandparents fought the Nazis and as such she is alive today. Not exactly what the teacher wanted to hear but they are pass fail in 5th grade so she passed.

Good for her. Glad she passed. Doesn’t sound like too much harm was done with that one and she got to learn more and brag about her grandpa.

It doesn’t seem like this assignment was telling your kid what to think. It gave her a chance to look through her history and work with her parents where you had the choice to engage in a racial way or a historical way. You all went with the historical way and your kid passed.

They didn’t think she would go down that path. It was designed to illicit a different response.

Yet she passed

Everyone passed. The point is I had to guide her down that path not her teacher.

I imagine every 5th graders parent guides them down the path they think best for that assignment

She said she was proud that her great grandparents fought the Nazis and as such she is alive today. Not exactly what the teacher wanted to hear but they are pass fail in 5th grade so she passed.

Good for her. Glad she passed. Doesn’t sound like too much harm was done with that one and she got to learn more and brag about her grandpa.

It doesn’t seem like this assignment was telling your kid what to think. It gave her a chance to look through her history and work with her parents where you had the choice to engage in a racial way or a historical way. You all went with the historical way and your kid passed.

They didn’t think she would go down that path. It was designed to illicit a different response.

Everyone passed. The point is I had to guide her down that path not her teacher.

I imagine every 5th graders parent guides them down the path they think best for that assignment

#1) Being white makes you privileged. They had to do an ancestry project and illustrate when exactly they took advantage of the system to garner the aforementioned privilege.

#2) They had to do a paper on the Israeli/Pali conflict and explain why Israel is an apartheid state (7th grade) not 5th.

#3) They had to Google the 1619 project and explain why 1619 and not 1776 is what we should be concentrating on and the date.

#4) They had to write about stereotypes in Music and why the black culture aka Rap and HipHop is associated with negativity many a time.

#5) They had to compare segregation of bathrooms by gender to segregation of bathrooms by color in the old South.

#6) My 7th grader is being forced to read that Robin DiAngelo propaganda.



I can go on but they are home half the time now due to COVID so we see all this and it is annoying.

Have you spoken with these teachers?

My wife has not I. Would not go well if I did.

At first she was agnostic and now she is very angry and has taken an ugly turn to the right wing way of thinking. She grew up with a single mother who held three jobs and two siblings as her dad died when she was two. She doesn’t feel privileged. It has taken a harsh toll on her.

Google it...she wrote a book that Whites are all racist. You still don’t get it. What if they taught:

#1) Pro Life...abortions are evil
#2) Pro 2nd amendment why every family should own a gun
#3) Gay marriage is bad and that traditional marriage is between a man and a woman
#4) America First, foreign countries in many instances are jealous of America?

That would be wrong too. Maybe teach them Excel or Spanish. The impact on them is confusion because neither my wife nor I agree with what the teachers tell them.

That’s a fair point, although I don’t see racial issues quite the same as abortion and 2nd amendment and other political controversies. Schools need to be inclusive environments and exist for socialization as well as education. I would disagree with lessons teaching that all whites are racist that’s for sure, but there has been much of our history that has been flat out ignored and I don’t have a problem with shining a light on what’s been dark for so long.

None of it has been ignored. What they are teaching I learned too. Teachers should teach how to think not what to think. While to you racial issue isn’t the same as abortion to many religious people it’s a very salient issue so how about we don’t discuss either?

I don’t know about that. I’ve poked around in the 1619 project and seen many things that wasn’t taught in school. Have you noticed the same thing?

You’re just arguing to argue. People on the right can be zealots when it comes to pro life just as those on the left may be zealots on racial injustice. What can a black man legally not do in America that I can? Racial injustice is a bullshit myth.

True, I engage in debate at times to stretch out issues and challenge people so hopefully a wider perspective and deeper understanding can be reached. Not just for them but for me too, that’s how my brain works. I understand this can be annoying at times and I understand you are talking about your kids which can be a sensitive issue so if it’s too much I’m happy to disengage.

You may do as you like. I do not want teachers teaching my kids what to think. They need to teach them how to think. Present both sides and let em decide. I would have zero issue with that. But they present one side only.

That’s fair. I’m curious. What did your kid say for the assignment where she had to find an example in family history that displayed privilege?

She used examples of my ancestors escaping the Holocaust although only 5% or so did and they ending up here. She said she was proud that her great grandparents fought the Nazis and as such she is alive today. Not exactly what the teacher wanted to hear but they are pass fail in 5th grade so she passed.

Good for her. Glad she passed. Doesn’t sound like too much harm was done with that one and she got to learn more and brag about her grandpa.

It doesn’t seem like this assignment was telling your kid what to think. It gave her a chance to look through her history and work with her parents where you had the choice to engage in a racial way or a historical way. You all went with the historical way and your kid passed.

They didn’t think she would go down that path. It was designed to illicit a different response.

Yet she passed

Everyone passed. The point is I had to guide her down that path not her teacher.

I imagine every 5th graders parent guides them down the path they think best for that assignment

This is spot on and Maher is no Republican and he agrees. Why are teachers teaching kids that America is racist? Terrible and awful.

My kids are seeing this too. Which is very unfortunate.

But "hard left" to Megan Kelly is center and center-right to the civilized world. Also, Kelly is a PR slut. Her entire MO is being the victim these days.

Hard left to her is not hating on the gay students.
