I'm a German. We - better to say Mr. Waldseemüller - gave you the name "America" for example. And how many foreigners wrote the constitution of the USA? I remember the first publishing of the declaration of independence was in the German language in the USA.
It's by the way astonishing that only 17% of the US-Americans think the relations between Germany and the USA are bad - while meanwhile 64% of all Germans think the relations between the USA and Germany are bad.
